Hydor’s Koralia G3 is a highly energy-efficient circulation and wave pump engineered for natural water movement in marine or freshwater tanks.
Description
High energy efficiency movement pump for marine or fresh water aquariums.
Koralia G3 is the innovative and unique range of circulation and wave pumps, designed especially to work in reef aquariums, can also be suitable for fresh water tanks. Higher performances, lower energy consumption and quick and easy maintenance are the main features of the Koralia G3 series. The new exclusive Hydor design and technology guarantees a smooth start, continuous and powerful water flow, and can be further managed using the three special attachments and Dual Magnet Support System (DMSS).
Low energy consumption movement pump specific for marine aquariums.
It can also be used in fresh water tanks.
Pumps allow a wide flow to increase water movement which is essential for Corals and Plants.
High energy efficiency: new motor design, new propeller profile, new intake spiral grid.
Koralia G3 is state of the art in terms of energy efficiency: only 1 Watt for 1450 l/h of flow.
Patented dual magnetic support system (DMSS), can be freely positioned inside the aquarium, for tanks with a thickness of up to 15 mm.
The pump can pivot in virtually any direction to guarantee flow where it is needed.
Equipped with vibration absorbing silicone for silent operation.
It can be connected to a timer with programmed intervals (seconds, minutes, hours).
Customizable in flow and direction, easy maintenance.
Equipped with spiral cable protection, ideal when there are hedgehogs, puffers, triggerfish or parrotfish in the aquarium.
Koralia G3 is designed for use in aquariums only, it cannot be used as a filter pump.
This pump is intended for indoor use only in water with a temperature up to 35° C (95° F).
Includes 3 special grids:
Flow Diffuser, for a wide and gentle flow.
Small fish guard, for the protection of smaller fish and shrimps.
Medium fish guard, for the protection of small to medium fish and shrimps.
What’s in the Box
Hydor ship the Koralia G3 assembled and ready to mount. The parts diagram in the manual lists the pump as upper chamber, impeller, shock absorber, and lower chamber with pump body; those come to you built up as one unit. Everything below is what the carton holds.
The Koralia G3 pump, assembled
Three flow attachments — flow diffuser, small fish guard and medium fish guard
Dual Magnet Support System: the internal suction cup with its magnet support, and the external suction cup with its magnet support
Spiral cable protector, already fitted over the submerged length of cable
Card separator between the two magnet halves, for storage
Multi-language instruction leaflet
Flow with each supplied attachment
No attachment fitted — 5000 l/h
Small fish guard, for smaller fish and shrimp — 3500 l/h
Medium fish guard, for small to medium fish and shrimp — 4000 l/h
Flow diffuser, for a wide, gentle flow — 3700 l/h
The three attachments are not decoration — each one changes the flow figure, and Hydor publish what each does to it. Fit whichever suits the livestock; the pump runs on any of them or on none.
Safety & Precautions
The points below are Hydor’s own, from the English section of the Koralia G3 manual. The magnet warnings are the ones people skip and then regret.
Before you plug it in
Check that every component is undamaged before the pump is put into service.
Check that your mains voltage matches the voltage printed on the unit’s label.
Do not run it dry — do not connect it to the mains unless it is completely immersed.
Do not connect it if any part is missing.
Do not connect it unless it is positioned on the supplied suction-cup and magnet support.
Indoor use only, in water up to 35 °C (95 °F).
It is an aquarium circulation pump and cannot be used as a filter pump.
Cable and mains
The cable cannot be replaced or repaired. If it is damaged, the whole unit has to be replaced — do not attempt a splice.
Do not cut the cable, and do not pull on it to unplug.
Always disconnect gently, and make sure your hands are dry before touching any electrical connection.
Keep every connection dry.
Disconnect the pump, and every other appliance in the water, before putting your hands in the aquarium.
The magnets
Keep the support out of reach of children — the attraction between the two halves is strong.
Never let the two magnet halves snap directly onto one another.
Within about 5 cm (2 inches) the magnets pull hard on metal objects and other magnets. Keep them away from blades, sharp objects and other magnets.
Keep them at least 30 cm (12 inches) from pacemakers, credit cards and keys.
When the pump is not in use, put the carton separator back between the magnets.
In service
Make sure nothing blocks the pump’s surface while it is running.
Make sure it cannot draw in sand. Hydor state that sand ingestion can seriously damage the unit and voids the guarantee.
Fitting and cleaning
Unwind the cable fully, fit the attachment you want, then place the silicone DMSS support where the flow is needed.
Immerse the pump completely and turn it into a vertical position so trapped air can escape the impeller chamber, then set it on the support.
Avoid lateral contact with the aquarium glass — Hydor point this out specifically, because that is what causes the buzzing people mistake for a fault.
The pump is designed to run safely on a timer with programmed intervals.
To service it: hold the pump with one hand and pull the external magnet away with the other to release it, then take the pump chamber apart.
Clean the impeller assembly and its chamber with a soft brush. No detergents, no solvents.
Rinse the upper and lower chamber grids under running water, or brush off algae and residue, then reassemble in reverse order.
