Hari High Performance Formula, 820g, 4mm

Tropican High Performance Formula provides proper daily nutrition for weaning, fledgling and breeding parrots, and for birds kept somewhere higher caloric energy is required, such as large flighted aviaries, or any bird that needs a heartier diet. It is also the formula HARI point to for converting a parrot off a seed-based diet.

This is the 4 mm granule, the larger of the two granule sizes. HARI list the formula for African Greys, Amazons, Caiques, Cockatoos, Conures, Macaws, Pionus and Quakers.

What makes it High Performance

• Guaranteed minimum 22% crude protein and 11% crude fat.
• Eight grains and nuts with natural orange and banana flavouring, formulated for palatability, which is what makes it workable during a diet conversion.
• Omega fatty acids from flaxseed, peanuts and sunflower seeds.
• Balanced calcium and vitamin D for egg formation and bone health.
• A complementary amino acid profile for feather and muscle development.
• Vitamins, minerals and prebiotic fibre are in the granule already, so a separate vitamin supplement is not needed.
• Made without artificial preservatives, colours or flavours.

High Performance or Lifetime?

The two Tropican granules are not interchangeable, and the difference is protein and fat rather than calories. HARI’s published guaranteed analysis puts High Performance at 22% crude protein and 11% crude fat minimum; Lifetime Formula at the same granule size is 13% and 7%. Calculated metabolisable energy is almost identical at 3,539 kcal/kg against Lifetime’s 3,528 kcal/kg.

Lifetime is the maintenance diet for fledged juvenile to adult parrots living an ordinary indoor life. Reach for High Performance when the bird is weaning, breeding, moulting, flying a large aviary, or being converted off seed. If none of those apply, Lifetime is the correct everyday choice.

Feeding & storage

Clean the water cups daily and top the granules up as needed. Introduce a new food gradually, replacing the current seed with Tropican over time rather than all at once. A parrot moved abruptly will often simply refuse the new food. Fresh greens, vegetables and small amounts of fruit daily are recommended alongside it.

Once opened, keep the sealed bag inside a sealed container in a cool, dry place. HARI’s CO2 treatment and air-barrier bags handle insect control and freshness in the unopened pack.

Pack size

This listing is the 820 g (1.8 lb) bag in the 4 mm granule, HARI item V80536. The same formula is also made in a 2 mm granule for smaller parrots.
