This Seachem MultiTest kit measures key water parameters with precision using a multi-cavity plate for simultaneous testing, for marine and freshwater tanks.
Marine pH should be 8.2 to 8.4. Tanks dosed with limewater may go as high as 8.6. Natural sea water has a total alkalinity of 2 to 3 meq/L, but aquarium water should have a total alkalinity of 4 to 6 meq/L.
This test kit features a unique dye that has a pronounced color change between 8.0 and 8.3, making it the easiest kit on the market to read in that critical range. It is suitable for marine or brackish water only. Alkalinity may be read from the same sample in 0.5 meq/L increments. MultiTest Marine pH & Alkalinity performs over 75 tests and contains a reference sample for validation.
This kit measures total alkalinity. Total alkalinity is a measure of the carbonate, bicarbonate, borate and hydroxide content of the water, expressed as the acid neutralizing capacity of the water in meq/L (milliequivalents/Liter). The expression of alkalinity as meq/L is chemically sound and the most useful way to express this property of the water to resist change in pH.
What it is. Seachem’s own description: the MultiTest Marine pH & Alkalinity kit, which performs over 75 tests and reads both pH and alkalinity from the same multi-cavity test plate. It is suitable for marine or brackish water only, and measures total alkalinity.
Where this sits in the Seachem range. One of Seachem’s individual MultiTest kits: it shares the opaque white multi-cavity test plate and sliding color-chart format with the rest of the MultiTest line, but is its own dedicated marine pH/alkalinity kit rather than part of Reef Special.
What makes it easy to read. Seachem notes the dye has a pronounced color change between pH 8.0 and 8.3, which the company calls the easiest kit on the market to read in that critical range.
Test count. Over 75 tests per kit.
Measurement range. pH 7.80 to 8.70, with the color chart resolving changes in 0.01 pH units; alkalinity from 0 upward, readable in 0.5 meq/L increments from the same sample.
Marine pH and alkalinity reagents, reference samples for validation, a pipette, a stir rod, the sliding color chart with its 5 cm viewing window, the multi-cavity test plate, and instructions.
