Sicce’s Voyager stream pump simulates natural marine currents with precision, backed by an extended multi-year warranty.
Description
12000 Litre / hour.
Sicce manufacturer warranty: 3 years, extended to 5 years if you register the product with Sicce.
The evolution of stream pumps: the new generation pump range Voyager 7 - 8 - 9 - 10, to perfectly simulate marine currents in your aquarium.
- regulation of the water flows power, creating flows of different intensity for soft and hard corals;
- support can be rotated 360 degrees
- pump can be bent upward and downward;
- highly resistant magnetic support, for glass up to 20 mm thick, consents angle positioning.
The rotor, with anti-wear shaft, guarantees endless and silent ON/OFF .
Choosing the right wavemaker comes down to matching flow rate to your tank size — see our guide to choosing a submersible pump for flow & wave making for how to size yours correctly.
Compatibility
Sicce rate the Voyager HP 8 for:
Freshwater aquariums 800 – 1,500 L
Marine aquariums 400 – 850 L
The marine figure is much lower than the freshwater one on every Voyager, and that is deliberate — reef tanks want far more turnover per litre than planted or community tanks do. Use the line that matches your tank, not the bigger number.
Flow is 12,000 l/h at 18 W, on 230–240 V / 50 Hz, which is Indian mains. The Sicce article number is RVOG08E with a 2.2 m cable.
Mounting: the magnetic holder is rated for glass up to 20 mm thick on the HP 7, 8, 9 and 10. It holds on dirty glass as well as clean, sits on the sides, the back or a corner, rotates a full 360°, and tilts up and down through as much as 180° of vertical aim.
This is an in-water pump only. It is not an inline or sump-return pump, it is not self-priming, and Sicce state it is designed for indoor use and is not suitable for outdoor applications.
Running it on a controller: Sicce suggest the Sicce Wave Surfer controller. If you use any other controller, Sicce's manual asks for a cycle regulator rather than a plain on/off switch — continuous switching on very short cycles wears the rotor out early.
Setup & Use
Check every part for damage before you start. Then, following Sicce's own sequence:
- Fit the pump into the internal holder so the holes line up, then screw the two fastening handles through the holder to lock the pump in place.
- If you want the extra flow the diffuser gives, fit it now, before the pump goes in the tank: take the front cover off, seat the diffuser where the grille sits, and check both joints are properly home so the diffuser cannot touch the impeller once the cover is back on. A badly seated diffuser will hit the impeller and break it.
- Put the pump in the tank. Now bring the outer magnet up to the glass starting about 10 cm / 3.9 inches away from the centre of the inner holder, and slide it across until you feel the two pull together. Never take the outer magnet straight to the inner one — the attraction is strong enough to crack the glass or catch your fingers.
- Aim the flow where you want it, then tighten the side handles so the pump stays put.
- Keep the body clear of the side panes and off the bottom. Contact with the glass causes resonance and vibration noise, and sitting too low means the pump draws up sand and detritus that jam the rotor.
- Plug it in last.
Cleaning. Unplug the pump and lift it right out of the water first. Take off the front cover and the diffuser by pressing gently on the upper joints from outside inwards. Unscrew the whole rotor assembly and pull it out of the motor body. Clean every part in fresh water, paying attention to the front cover, the rotor assembly, the rotor chamber and the bush inside the motor body. For stubborn deposits use a soft brush and vinegar only — never anything hard. Screw the rotor assembly back in clockwise until it is properly tight, then check it spins freely with a little axial play; if the shaft is locked, press lightly on the centre of the axis, not on the blades, and check again. Hard water means cleaning more often.
Safety & Precautions
- Always isolate the pump from the mains before installing it or doing any maintenance. Sicce require the supply to run through a residual current device (RCD) rated at no more than 30 mA.
- The pump has a type Z cable link. Neither the cable nor the plug can be replaced or repaired — if either is damaged the whole pump has to be replaced. Do not run it with a damaged cord or plug, or after it has been dropped or has started misbehaving.
- Never run it without water in the impeller chamber. Running dry damages the motor and is not covered by warranty.
- Rated for liquids and surroundings up to 35 °C / 95 °F. Do not use it with corrosive or abrasive liquids, and do not use it for anything other than the applications Sicce list — bathroom and similar uses are specifically excluded.
- Leave a drip loop in the cable: the lowest point of the cord must sit below the socket so water running down it drips off rather than reaching the outlet.
- Never lift or carry the pump by its cord during installation or maintenance.
- Not to be used by children, or by anyone who needs supervision, without a responsible adult present.
- Indoor use only. Sicce state that Voyager HP pumps are not suitable for outdoor applications.
- The mounting magnets are strong. Keep them away from blades, sharp objects and other magnets — they will snap metal objects towards themselves hard enough to injure you.
- Keep the magnets at least 30 cm / 12 inches away from pacemakers, credit cards, keys and anything else sensitive to a magnetic field. Sicce warn that the damage to electronics can be permanent.
- Never bring the two halves of the mount together directly. Hold them only by their outer faces and keep fingers out from between them — done wrong, this breaks aquarium glass and crushes fingers.
- Magnets that are taken above 50 °C / 122 °F can lose some or all of their holding power permanently.
- When the diffuser is fitted, make certain it is correctly seated in the front cover. If it is not, it will strike the rotor and break it.
- An electronic sensor shuts the pump down if the rotor jams or conditions go abnormal, so it cannot cook itself. To restart it, unplug it and plug it back in — but find out what caused the stop first.
One note from Sicce that saves a support ticket: limescale deposits and normal wear make these pumps noisier over time. Sicce say plainly that this does not affect how well the pump works, and the fix is a new rotor, not a repair.
