EHEIM Substrat 2 Litre

Standard bio-filter medium with large colonization area for bacteria cultures and high efficiency SUBSTRAT can be layered in one or more layers. It is a highly porous filter material made from sintered glass. The surface structure offers the important purification bacteria excellent colonization conditions. The colonizable area amounts to 450 m² per liter. EHEIM SUBSTRAT is suitable for fresh and marine water, is washable and can be reused.

Tip: Never clean or change all the filter media together in one operation (and never clean too rigorously). The bacteria cultures must not be completely destroyed, otherwise re-colonization will be retarded. The filter baskets in the external filters and filter modules in the internal filters aqua-ball an bio-power are ideal for partial cleaning.

What it is. EHEIM SUBSTRAT is a biological filter medium made from highly porous sintered glass, built to give nitrifying bacteria somewhere to colonise rather than to trap dirt itself. EHEIM states roughly 450 m² of colonisable surface per litre of medium.

Where this sits in the EHEIM range. The entry point of EHEIM’s biological media line: one step below SUBSTRATpro, the pearl-shaped version built for faster nitrite reduction and longer intervals between cleans.

Setup & Use

How it goes in. Layer it in the biological stage of the filter, after the mechanical pre-filter media (EHEIM MECH or MECHpro) has taken out the larger particles. EHEIM’s own instruction: never replace all of the biological media in one go. Clean or replace it in stages so the bacterial culture already established on the untouched media keeps the filter running while the rest re-matures.

Cleaning, not replacing. SUBSTRAT is washable and reusable. Rinse it in removed aquarium water, never tap water, which will kill the colony.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date. Their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 48 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
