Specifications

BluBalls are Hydor’s replacement biological media — plastic spheres with a large working surface, sold as a spare part for the media compartment of an internal filter.

  • Pack size — 300 g
  • Material — plastic
  • Form — spheres, described by Hydor as large-surface
  • Filtration stage — biological
  • Sold as — a spare part, for refilling or topping up a filter you already own

Hydor publish no sphere diameter, no bulk volume and no surface-area figure for BluBalls, and no litres-of-tank rating. The 300 g pack weight is the only quantity they give. If you need to know whether one pack fills your particular filter chamber, ask us before ordering and we will measure a pack against it.

Setup & Use

BluBalls go into the compartment an internal filter reserves for biological media. Hydor describe their own Crystal internal filter as filtering in two stages: a sponge first, catching waste and larger particles, and then a second stage that is chemical or biological depending on what you put in the specific compartment — activated carbon for chemical, or a biological medium such as these to keep nitrate at a sensible level. That second compartment is where BluBalls belong.

  • Rinse the media before it goes in. That is Hydor’s standing instruction for filter media, printed in their filter manuals.
  • Fill the biological compartment; do not pack it so tight that water is forced to channel around it.
  • Water has to pass through the sponge stage first. Biological media works on water that has already been stripped of the coarse waste.
  • When you clean the filter, wash or replace only part of the media at a time. Hydor are explicit that doing all of it at once destroys the bacterial colony living in it — the whole point of the stage.
  • Rinse in tank water where you can, and never in detergent or solvent.

Plastic biological media does not wear out chemically the way carbon does. It is replaced when it has broken down physically or clogged past cleaning, not on a schedule.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
