Shirakura Chi Ebi – Baby Shrimp Food is a food mixture that has especially been designed for baby shrimp, containing many important nutrients baby shrimp need for healthy growth during their first weeks.

Moreover, Shirakura Chi Ebi enhances the formation of microorganisms and other small animals that are usually not visible in the tank as they live in the substrate where they live off droppings of the animals in the tank and off food rests. These organisms are an essential part of a healthy shrimp’s diet, and they are of special importance for baby shrimp.

Feeding Guide

The dose, first. Shirakura’s own instruction is one
level spoon a day on a 60 cm tank and one
heaped spoon a day on a 100 cm tank, varied according
to how many animals the aquarium actually houses. The measuring spoon is in
the bag. That is a tank-size dose rather than a head-count dose because of
what this food is really for.

What you are feeding is not only the shrimp. Chi Ebi is a
powder, and about half its job is to seed and sustain the microorganism film
that shrimplets graze on. Shirakura’s own account of it: dig gently into the
substrate with your hand and within seconds the shrimp gather on that exact
spot, eating the microorganisms it has exposed. Feeding Chi Ebi regularly is
how you keep that food base there permanently. Students at the University for
Fisheries Science in Hokkaido found the microorganism population more than
ten times higher in tanks fed Chi Ebi than in comparable tanks without it,
with more shrimplets surviving and developing better.

How to put it in. Shirakura sprinkle a measuring spoon of
it across the water surface and let the surface movement carry it down, so it
settles evenly over the whole floor rather than in one heap. That matters for
babies: newly hatched shrimplets stay where they hatched for several days,
and if there is nothing to graze in that spot they starve there. Powder that
has reached every corner is the point.

Little and often beats a lot at once. Shirakura are
explicit: smaller amounts at shorter intervals. If you can see
leftovers the next day — in the moss, on the floor — do not feed
again until they are gone, and feed less next time. Their general
rule for any food in a shrimp tank is to remove leftovers after
two hours at the latest, and to aim to feed so little that
there is nothing left to remove.

Shirakura’s own weekly plan, for a cycled, stable
tank — Chi Ebi is not meant to be the only thing you feed:

• Monday — Chi Ebi
• Tuesday — a basic feed
• Wednesday — spinach or chard, plus Chi Ebi
• Thursday — a basic feed
• Friday — Chi Ebi
• Saturday — a basic feed
• Sunday — brine shrimp, plus Chi Ebi

In a brand-new tank it is a starter, not a meal.
Shirakura’s thirty-day schedule for a fresh tank opens on
day one with one level scoop of Chi Ebi
for the bacteria, with no shrimp in the tank at all, then
another level scoop around day 10, and further scoops on days 22 and 27 once
the first few animals are in. They do not feed on the day the shrimp are
introduced.

And the honest caveat, which is Shirakura’s own. With
baby shrimp the line between underfeeding and fouling the water is a fine
one, and no published dose crosses it for you. Two identically set-up tanks
in the same house never run in step. Approach the right amount gradually and
watch the tank, not the spoon.

Not published. How long the bag keeps once it is open.
Shirakura give no figure, so re-close the bag properly and use it within a
sensible time rather than to a date we would have to invent.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number — or email us, if you would rather — and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
