Shrimp King Cambarellus Sticks match the varied omnivorous diet of dwarf crayfish with both animal and vegetable-origin ingredients.

Description

Dwarf crayfish eat a very varied diet in nature. Basically, they are omnivorous, and they like eating food of animal as well as of vegetable origins. Shrimp King Cambarellus Sticks contain a biologically balanced choice of ingredients that are found in the natural food range of dwarf crayfish in nature. The yummy Cambarellus Sticks provide your tiny armoured knights with all the important nutrients, vitamins, minerals and trace elements they need on a daily basis.

Arctic krill and brine shrimp add unsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3) and essential amino acids as well as high-quality proteins, which the crayfish need for healthy growth and for forming eggs. Spirulina and dandelion are excellent sources of vitamins and minerals. As special treat, we have added insects like grasshoppers and maggots. Special organically bound minerals like calcium and magnesium are the basis for an unproblematic moult and a stable shell. Astaxanthin adds a splash of color and gives your CPOs a great orange color. Natural beta-glucane stimulates the immune system of the crayfish.

The stick form allows the dwarf crayfish to get a firm grip on their food to munch on it – and they produce less dust when eating. In combination with the high digestibility, this prevents undue water pollution.

Manufactured with love, passion and competence in the Dennerle foodstuff manufactory.

Feeding Guide

Dennerle’s instruction, in full:
daily, as much as the crayfish will eat in about
one hour, and remove any leftovers after
24 hours
. Two numbers, and both of them matter. The hour is
how you find the right portion; the 24 hours is the outside limit before an
uneaten stick starts costing you water quality.

Find the portion by watching, not by counting. Put in a
small number of sticks, come back in an hour, and see what is left. Nothing
left means feed slightly more tomorrow; sticks still sitting there means
feed less. Dwarf crayfish are slow, deliberate feeders that hold a stick and
work at it, so an hour is a realistic window — unlike shrimp, they will
not have cleared it in ten minutes.

Why the stick shape is the point. Dennerle make this food
as a stick specifically because a crayfish can get its claws round it and
munch, and because a stick that holds together produces far less dust than a
crumbling pellet. Less dust plus high digestibility is what keeps the water
clear on a daily feeding schedule. Do not crush the sticks up to make them
go further; you would be undoing the reason they are shaped that way.

What it is meant to feed. Dennerle name the species
themselves: Cambarellus patzcuarensis ‘orange’ —
the CPO — and C. shufeldtii, C. ninae,
C. chapalanus, C. texanus, C. puer and
C. diminutus. They also say it suits the larger crayfish genera:
Cambarus, Procambarus and Cherax. So a full-size
Cherax in a species tank eats the same food, just more of it.

It is a complementary food, not a complete one. That is
the declaration on the pack, and it is worth taking at face value. Crayfish
in nature eat animal and vegetable matter across a wide range, and the tank
itself — leaf litter, biofilm, the odd snail — is part of the
diet. Feeding one product exclusively, every day, for a year is not what
“complementary” means.

Around a moult, back off. A crayfish that has just moulted
hides and does not feed, and a soft-shelled animal is at its most vulnerable.
Do not chase it with food; keep feeding the tank as normal, take the
leftovers out on schedule, and let it come out when it is ready. Leave the
cast shell in the tank — the animal will usually eat it back for the
calcium.

The 24-hour rule is a filter instruction as much as a feeding
one.
This is a high-protein food in a small tank, which is the usual
setting for dwarf crayfish. Protein left to break down is ammonia within a
day or two. If you feed in the evening, make lifting the leftovers part of
the morning routine.

Close the tub and keep it dry. Dennerle’s own storage
line: re-close the container after taking food out, and store dry at room
temperature. They publish no shelf life once opened, so we will not invent
one.

Not published, and not guessed at here. A number of sticks
per animal, a ration by weight, and any separate schedule for juveniles or
for berried females. Dennerle dose this food by behaviour and stop there.

Doses, species list and storage are Dennerle’s own, from their product
page for Shrimp King Cambarellus.
