For the most natural environment in the reef aquarium it is important to pay close attention to the mineral and nutrient content. Naturally low nitrate and phosphate levels are what allow corals to show their brightest and most vibrant colors while also be able to grow vigorously.

NP BACTO PELLETS is an easy-to-use filter media for the effective removal of nitrate and phosphate. It is made from a mixture of natural biopolymers, which promote the colonization and growth of nitrate and phosphate removing bacteria as well as other aerobic microorganisms. This valuable biomass is then made available as a food source for filter feeders or can be skimmed off.

How to use:

NP BACTO PELLETS should be placed in a pellet reactor or fluidizing reactor that circulates the pellets well. For the removal of nutrients and gas exchange a protein skimmer is recommended in marine aquariums. Pour boiling hot water over the pellets and let soak for 2 hours before use to expel excess air. Start with 50 ml NP BACTO PELLETS for every 100 l / 26 US-Gal. of aquarium water. Double the amount after four weeks if necessary but DO NOT EXCEED 200 ml of NP BACTO PELLETS per 100 liters / 26 US-Gal. of water. We recommend you top up the NP BACTO PELLETS every month to replace any degraded material.

For a quick and effective decomposition of nutrients, the outlet of the pellet reactor system should be installed nearby the inlet of the skimmer.

Tropic Marin NP BACTO BALANCE is ideal for use with NP-BACTO PELLETS, offering a controlled removal of nutrients.

Feeding Guide

These pellets have to run in a fluidised-bed or pellet reactor with enough flow to keep the media tumbling. They do not work sitting in a filter chamber, and in a marine tank Tropic Marin want a protein skimmer running alongside them to export the bacterial biomass and handle gas exchange.

Before first use: pour boiling hot water over the pellets and let them soak for two hours to drive out trapped air, otherwise they float instead of fluidising.

• Starting quantity: 50 ml (1.5 fl.oz.) per 100 l (26 US-gal.) of system volume.
• Increasing: if necessary, double the amount after four weeks.
• Ceiling: do not exceed 200 ml (6.5 fl.oz.) per 100 l (26 US-gal.) of system volume.
• Topping up: replenish the consumed pellets every month. The media is biodegradable and is meant to be used up.

For the fastest reduction, aim the reactor outlet near the skimmer intake. Tropic Marin say the drop in nutrient levels becomes noticeable and measurable after two to four weeks.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Backorder & Dispatch Timeline

This item is stocked to order. Back-orders are consolidated and placed with our overseas suppliers once a month, on the last day of the month, and all such orders are shipped before the 15th of the following month.

Back-orders cannot be cancelled once they have been placed with the supplier. If you cancel before that, payment-gateway charges of 2% plus GST are deducted and the balance refunded. In the rare case a supplier cannot fulfil the item, we will offer you an alternative first, and refund in full with no deduction if you would rather not take it.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 48 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
