Nitrate Remover is a premium-grade, nitrate selective, ion-exchange resin. It removes Nitrates, Nitrites & traces of Phosphate quickly and safely from aquarium water.

Our round PODS are a unique Aquatic application manufactured by RP Aquatics, allowing unrestricted flow within the canister filter which is vital for the bacteria Population.

Nitrate Remover helps reduce nuisance algae by starving it of its primary food source, nitrate. It uses a premium grade ion exchange resin which works in a wide range of pH parameters and temperature conditions.

Each pack contains individually sealed 1x 100g pods, sufficient for up to 120 litres of water.

How RP sell it, and what you are buying here. RP pack the Nitrate Remover as either a single pod or a three-pod pack. This listing is the single pod. If your tank is over 150 litres you need more than one, and it is worth telling us the volume when you order.

Hazard data, from RP’s product data sheet: not classified as hazardous or dangerous. It will cause eye irritation — rinse thoroughly for several minutes if it gets in your eyes and seek advice if irritation persists — and may irritate skin, so gloves are recommended and hands should be washed after handling. Ingestion is not likely to pose a health risk. Not harmful to plant or animal life and not harmful to the environment. Spilled beads are a slipping hazard. Store in a well-ventilated place below 50 °C.

Setup & Use

Rinse the pod before use. RP’s data sheet says so, and it takes ten seconds under a tap. It removes the fines that would otherwise cloud the tank.

Lay the pod flat. RP are emphatic about this and it is the single thing most people get wrong: the pod must sit flat, not squashed into a corner or wedged on edge, so water passes through the whole disc rather than round it. In a canister, that means a tray of its own or the top tray, not stuffed in alongside sponge.

Put it after the biological media, never before. The bacteria come first in the flow path; the chemical media comes after them. RP say the same, and it is why the round pod shape exists — it lets water move freely through the canister instead of damming it.

Clean the filter first on a mature tank. RP recommend servicing an established filter before you fit the pods. A pod dropped into a canister full of accumulated sludge blinds itself in a fortnight.

Take the pods out during any medication course. RP say this explicitly. Both of their media will strip a treatment out of the water; leave them in and you have medicated your filter rather than your fish.

Running a sump or a reactor instead? RP’s own instruction is to cut the media out of the pod and run it loose in a reactor.

Reactor flow rate, if you go that route: RP specify 50 to 150 litres per hour through loose Nitrate Remover resin. That is slow — an ion-exchange resin needs contact time, and blasting it at full pump output simply pushes water past the beads.

Do not fit it to a brand-new tank. RP’s own guidance is to add the pods to a new aquarium only after two to three weeks. A tank that is still cycling needs its ammonia and nitrite to complete the nitrogen cycle so the bacteria establish; stripping nitrate out from day one works against that.

It can be regenerated, and RP publish how. This is unusual and it is the strongest argument for the product. RP’s regeneration procedure, verbatim: fill a clean bucket with about 5 litres of aquarium water; add 300 g of water-softening salt tablets; agitate with an air stone until the salt turns to brine; add up to three used pods; leave them tumbling overnight; lift the pods out; discard the dirty water; refill the bucket with about 5 litres of aquarium water and run the air stone for 15 minutes to wash the pods. That is the whole procedure. RP sell the salt tablets themselves; ordinary dishwasher salt is the same material, but check that yours is plain sodium chloride with nothing added.

When to regenerate, and when to give up on a pod. Ten weeks is RP’s figure at an average load; on a heavily stocked tank it will be less. The honest test is your nitrate reading — when it stops falling, the resin is exhausted. Regenerate it or replace it. RP’s data sheet also carries a plain ‘discard after use’ line alongside the regeneration instructions, so a pod that no longer responds to a brine soak has reached the end.

What it will not do. Removing nitrate does not remove the reason nitrate is being produced. This is a tool for a heavily stocked tank or an algae problem you are trying to break, used alongside feeding less and changing water — not instead of them.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
