What is PolypLab Colors?
Designed for the most demanding coral growers, Colors is an intense ultra pure group of amino-acids. User discretion is advised. Please follow dosage instructions. Sudden algae blooms have been shown to result from an excess of amino-acid concentration. Please stop using colors immediately for a period of at least 14 days. Then resume use.
Directions:
1 drop per 100 gallons of total system water volume daily.
Composition & Analysis
Colors is an amino acid concentrate. PolypLab describe it as an intense, ultra pure group of amino acids aimed at ultra-low-nutrient systems and demanding growers — the same product family as their Acids, dosed four times more sparingly.
No amino acids are named and no analysis is published. There is no composition, no concentration by weight and no ingredient list for Colors anywhere in PolypLab's material, and we are not going to construct one.
On the concentration figure, we have two numbers from the manufacturer and no way to reconcile them. PolypLab's own store names the single variant of this product 200x, which is where our product title's "200X Concentration" comes from. The body text on PolypLab's own product page says Concentration: 200%. Those are not the same claim — they differ by a factor of a hundred — and PolypLab publish no reference point for either: no baseline product it is stronger than, and no amino acid content by weight. We have quoted both and we are not going to pick one and present it as fact. If it matters to your buying decision, ask us and we will read what the physical label says.
What is not in dispute is the dose rate, and that is the number that actually governs how you use it. See the Feeding Guide below.
Feeding Guide
Dose: one drop per 100 US gallons (about 380 litres) of total system water volume, daily. That is a quarter of the rate of PolypLab's standard Acids, and it is the single most important number on this page. Dosing Colors at the Acids rate is a four-times overdose.
PolypLab's own warning, in their words and worth reading twice: user discretion is advised, and sudden algae blooms have been shown to result from an excess of amino acid concentration. If that happens, their instruction is to stop using Colors immediately for at least fourteen days, then resume.
If your system is well under 380 litres — and most are — one drop is already more than the daily rate, and there is no smaller step available. Our own approach in that case is to dose every second or third day rather than to try to split a drop, and to watch the tank rather than the calendar. That is our judgement, not a PolypLab instruction.
Count system volume, not display volume: sump and refugium included.
This is not a product to reach for when something looks wrong. It is aimed at systems whose nutrients are already low and stable, and on a tank that is still finding its feet it is more likely to feed algae than corals.
Pack Size
50 ml. PolypLab list one variant of Colors and no other size — SKU PL23, named "200x" in their own store.
At one drop per 380 litres per day this is the longest-lasting bottle in PolypLab's range by a wide margin: a 300-litre system is using roughly one drop a day, and even a large system will not empty it quickly.
No drop count is claimed. PolypLab publish no drop volume and no bottle-life figure, so any "number of doses" you see quoted for this product did not come from them.
