Reef Brite Live Rock Enhance is a concentrated bacteria and enzyme blend that quickly cleans and cures new and existing live rock.
Description
The Reef Brite Live Rock Enhance is an extremely concentrated blend of bacteria and supporting enzymes designed to quickly clean and cure both new and old live rock. The microbes in Live Rock Enhance become activated when added to water and will rapidly break down hidden organic material and wastes, unclogging the pore structure within the rock and enhancing the biological filtration capacity of any rock. Live Rock Enhance can also help to revitalize sump biofilters, sand beds, refugiums, and other areas where detritus accumulates over time. This allows these natural filtration sites to function more efficiently, keeping your aquarium healthy and clean.
Features
- Promotes rapid and complete curing and cycling of new rock
- Revitalizes old rock, sand, and filtration systems
- Supports healthy biological filtration
- Discourages unwanted microorganisms from attaching to rock
- Ideal for reef aquariums as well as fish only systems
- Unmatched bacterial density (no water)
Specifications
- Ingredients: Cultures of proprietary microbes, including Bacillus subtillis, Bacillus licheniformis, and attendant enzymes. Botanical extracts to aid adhesion.
- Approximately 7 billion colony forming units of bacteria per gram (cfu/g)
- Treats approximately 2000 gallons
Directions
- Add one scoop per 25 gallons in an area of high circulation every other day for the first week. For smaller tanks (10-15 gallons) use half a scoop. For larger systems use one teaspoon per 100 gallons.
- For optimal results add to a few ounces of aquarium water in a separate container and let sit for 20-30 minutes, making sure to stir about every ten minutes to ensure best rehydration rate, then pour into aquarium.
- Repeat dose every week thereafter until the desired results are achieved. Maintain adequate aeration and water circulation.
Notes & Tips
- In early stages of curing, cloudy water is normal.
- Dose daily until ammonia level is zero, and the water is clear.
- Live Rock Enhance is a live culture, so it is recommended to turn off UV sterilizers while dosing.
- Curing is further enhanced by aeration, use of a Protein Skimmer, and changing water when it clouds.
- Replace dose whenever water is changed.
- Oxygen becomes more soluble as water temperature and salinity decreases; therefore, curing is faster and easier at lower temperatures and salinities. We suggest while curing to try to keep water at about 72° – 73° f and 1.020 – 1.021 specific gravity.

Feeding Guide
The dose: one level scoop per 25 gallons — about 95 litres — added to a high-flow area, every other day for the first week. On a small tank of 10 to 15 gallons, use half a scoop. On a large system, use one teaspoon (about four scoops) per 100 gallons, roughly 380 litres. After the first week, repeat the dose weekly until you have the result you want.
Rehydrate it first — this is not optional. Reef Brite's own instruction is to tip the dose into a few ounces of aquarium water in a separate container, leave it 20 to 30 minutes, and stir it about every ten minutes. That soak is what gets the dried spores to excyst. Pour the whole cup into a high-current area so it distributes.
Turn the UV steriliser off while you dose. Reef Brite warn that failing to do so may significantly reduce the effectiveness of the product. It is a live culture, and a UV steriliser is a device for killing live cultures.
Curing new rock — the full protocol. Dose daily until ammonia reads zero and the water is clear. Cloudy water in the early stages is normal and expected. Aeration, a running protein skimmer and a water change whenever the water clouds all speed it up. Replace the dose every time you change water, because you have just removed some of it. Reef Brite also point out that oxygen dissolves better in cooler, less saline water, so curing goes faster and easier at about 72–73 °F (22–23 °C) and a specific gravity of 1.020–1.021 — cooler and fresher than you would run a display.
Seeding dry base rock. Follow the initial dosing schedule above. The point here is different from curing: you are establishing a healthy biofilm early so that the surfaces are already colonised by something desirable when the nuisance organisms arrive.
If you run a refugium, dose it separately. Reef Brite's instruction is to work out the volume of the refugium and of the display it supports, and add the proportional amount to each — not to dose the display and hope it circulates.
Keep the aeration and circulation up throughout. These are aerobic bacteria doing aerobic work, and a bloom of them consumes oxygen. That is also why cloudy water during curing is normal rather than alarming.
It works on more than rock. Reef Brite aim the same product at sump biofilters, sand beds, refugiums and anywhere detritus packs into a surface and stops it working. On an established tank that has grown sluggish, that is the more common use.
Pack Size
2 fl oz — about 57 ml — with a measuring scoop included. One jar, one scoop.
Treats approximately 2,000 gallons — about 7,600 litres — which is Reef Brite's own figure. At one scoop per 25 gallons that is roughly 80 scoops in the jar.
What that means for a real job. On a 200 litre reef, one dose is a little over two scoops. The first week is four doses every other day, so about nine scoops; weekly maintenance after that is another two. A jar comfortably covers curing a batch of rock and several months of upkeep on a tank that size. Curing 40 lb of dry rock in a bin is the demanding case — daily dosing until ammonia zeroes, plus a fresh dose after every water change — and that will use a noticeable part of a jar.
At 7 billion cfu per gram, Reef Brite's stated bacterial density, the concentration is the reason the jar is small. They make a point of the product containing no water: you are buying the culture, not the bottle it usually comes in.
Storage. Reef Brite's own instruction is to keep it in a cool, dry place, and they add that refrigeration is what gives the dry cysts their long life — up to two years refrigerated. In an Indian summer, the fridge is not optional advice; it is the difference between a live culture and an expensive powder. Keep the lid on tight and never put a wet scoop back in the jar.
Bulk. Reef Brite supply this unpackaged in 1 lb increments for shops and service companies. If you maintain several systems, ask us.
