Crystallized trace elements for the health and growth of all invertebrates
In a marine aquarium with a large invertebrate bio-mass, particularly of hard corals, trace elements in the water are quickly depleted. At the same time the concentration of macro-elements, such as sodium, chlorine and sulfate, continues to remain constant. Development and growth of resident organisms may be impaired due to this lack of trace elements and imbalance of ions. PRO-CORAL MINERAL is a highly concentrated form of the trace elements that are contained in Tropic Marin Sea Salt mixture. Regular additions of trace elements, as well as water changes, help to maintain a healthy environment for all invertebrates.
Compatibility
Marine and reef aquariums only. This is a concentrate of the trace elements already present in Tropic Marin sea salt, and it belongs in salt water.
Who actually needs it. Tropic Marin aim it at tanks with a high invertebrate population, particularly reef-building stony corals. In a heavily stocked reef the trace elements go first while the macro-elements — sodium, chlorine, potassium, sulphate — stay more or less constant, and it is that imbalance, rather than a general shortage, that stunts growth.
What it is not. The ingredients are trace elements, magnesium salts and iodide. It is not a calcium or alkalinity supplement and will not do the job of a Balling or carbonate product. It also does not replace water changes — Tropic Marin position it as what you add beyond the normal water change, not instead of one.
What is deliberately absent: no chelates, no phosphates, no nitrates.
Alongside it: Tropic Marin recommend weekly Reef Actif with this, for polyp extension and coral colour.
Dosage & Directions
Weekly dose: one level measuring spoon (5 ml) per 100 litres of aquarium water, once a week.
What that dose does: Tropic Marin's own figures — it raises strontium by roughly 0.8 mg per litre and iodine by roughly 0.04 mg per litre.
Maximum: two measuring spoons per 100 litres weekly. Tropic Marin are unusually blunt about this one: this dosage should not be exceeded under any circumstances.
How much a can covers: one 250 g can is enough for approximately 5,000 litres of aquarium water — a 200 litre reef dosed weekly gets about two years out of it.
How to add it. Two ways, both Tropic Marin's:
- Add it carefully in the filter area of the aquarium, at a sufficient distance from the pump.
- Or dissolve one measuring spoon in 250 ml of reverse osmosis water first and add that to the tank.
The second method is the safer of the two in a well-stocked tank: these are crystallised trace elements at high concentration, and undissolved crystals landing on a coral are not something you want.
Handling: Tropic Marin's product documentation carries an eye irritation warning for this product. Avoid getting the powder in your eyes, and wash your hands after dosing.
A note on the printed rate. Tropic Marin's older product pages gave this as one spoon per 50 litres. Their current documentation halves that to one spoon per 100 litres, and the trace-element increases quoted above are the current figures. We have published the current, lower rate. If the can you receive prints something different, follow the can.
