Tropica Nutrition Capsules deliver an extra nutrient boost placed directly at the roots of fast-growing plants.

Description

Nutrition Capsules is an extra nutrient supplement use tweezers to place the capsule in the gravel, close to the roots of fast-growing plants.
  • Nutrition Capsules contain both nitrogen, phosphor, iron and micro nutrients.
  • The nutrients are slowly released as the plants need them.
  • Use Nutrition Capsules for stem plants, Cryptocoryne, Echinodorus, Vallisneria etc. all plants with sturdy roots.

How to use the product

Nitrogen, phosphor, iron and manganese, as well as all vital micro nutrients are released by the capsules over a period of 1-2 months. Place the capsules close to the roots of large solitary plants and plants with sturdy roots.

The capsules do not fully decompose and the small balls inside the capsules will remain in the substrate after all nutrients have been released. The balls are made of resin, which is biologically harmless.

Compatibility

Freshwater planted aquariums — and specifically, plants that feed through their roots.

Tropica name the plants these are for: stem plants, Cryptocoryne, Echinodorus, Vallisneria — all plants with sturdy roots, and large solitary plants in particular. A capsule is pushed into the substrate with tweezers, close to the roots, and releases nitrogen, phosphorus, iron, manganese and the vital micro-nutrients over 1 to 2 months.

Where they are the wrong tool. A capsule feeds one plant at its roots. Plants that are not rooted in the substrate at all — anything tied to wood or rock, mosses, and epiphytes — take their nutrition from the water column, so a liquid fertiliser is what feeds those. Most planted tanks end up running both: capsules under the heavy root feeders, liquid for everything else.

Alongside a liquid fertiliser. These contain nitrogen and phosphorus, so they pair naturally with Tropica’s Premium Nutrition, which deliberately has neither — the capsules put N and P where the roots are without adding them to the open water where algae can reach them.

One thing to know before you commit. Tropica are open about it: the capsules do not fully decompose. The small balls inside stay in the substrate permanently once the nutrients have been released. Tropica describe the balls as resin and biologically harmless, but they are there for good, so bear it in mind if you re-scape often or run a very shallow or a display-grade white substrate.

Substrate: gravel or sand. Tropica describe placing the capsule in the gravel — you need enough depth to bury it against the root mass.

Pack Size

10 capsules.

Tropica sell Nutrition Capsules in three pack sizes — 3, 10 and 50 capsules. We list the 10 and the 50-capsule pack.

How far a pack goes. One capsule feeds one root-feeding plant for 1 to 2 months, so the arithmetic is simply the number of heavy root feeders in your tank. A tank with six Cryptocoryne and a couple of Echinodorus uses roughly eight capsules every six to eight weeks — which is about 60 a year, and is why the 50-capsule pack exists.

The 10-pack is the one to start with if you are working out how many of your plants actually respond to root feeding. The 50-pack is the better value once you know.

  2. I used these capsules in my 2 years old 400 L tank, It gives me a very good result. While inserting one of the capsules that were burst open and dissolved in the water, after one week I found black beard algae and blue-green algae growth. I don’t know if it had any connection with the capsule burst. Anyway, bit overpriced but nice results.
