The essential microorganism solution for a healthy, well-balanced and efficient bacterial fauna in a tank. ZEObak contains several bacterial strains, used in combination with ZEOfood and ZEOstart building up bacteria plankton. That is absorbed by many corals. Contains several bacterial strains that form a chain to reduce unwanted substances.

1. Dose directly into the tank.
2.  If possible please switch off the skimmer briefly.
3. Dose 1 drop per 25 gallons/100 L once or twice a week, depending on tank stocking.

This liquid solution contains several bacterial strains. The added microorganisms can be used as a food source by the corals. ZEObac consists of different bacterial strains that form a chain for nutrient reduction. An interruption of this chain leads to a disturbance and the accumulation of unwanted substances. For this reason, renewed dosing of the bacterial solution is recommended. Interruption in dosing for a long period of time will inevitably lead to a so-called monoculture. The added microorganisms work in principle as a chain reaction, which reduces substances step by step until the skimmer is able to permanently remove it from the tank. The result can be seen in the increased concentrated adsorbent in the protein skimmer the days following. It should be dosed for a period of 10-14 days after every exchange of ZEOvit (and for the initial use of ZEOvit). In order to maintain the microorganisms, we recommend an additional dose outside of this period once or twice weekly at the same dosing rate. Over dosage in a nutrient poor environment leads to a darkening of the coral tissue. This product has a limited shelf life because it contains cultures of living microorganisms. Unopened, it will last for at least 6 months if kept refrigerated. After the bottle is opened, the shelf life is approximately 3 months. Spoiled strains can be identified by a foul odor. If this is the case, some of the microorganisms are dead and the solution cannot be used. We recommend purchasing a bottle size that can be used in a 3-month period. It is better to purchase smaller amounts on a more frequent basis. Please make sure to avoid any contamination of the solution in the bottle (e.g. with aquarium water).

What it is. A microorganism solution. KZ’s catalogue calls it a high-tech bacterial solution that creates a healthy, well-balanced and efficient bacterial fauna and reduces organic and inorganic substances.

Where this sits in the Korallen-Zucht range. KZ build everything around four basis products — ZEOvit zeolite media, ZEObak, ZEOfood and ZEOstart — which together are the ZEOvit system. Everything else in the range, this product included, is a layer on top: colour products, problem solvers, and single elements. KZ’s own guidance is that the products can each be used separately, without the complete ZEOvit system and without the other KZ products, but that the full effect in quality and colouration comes only from running the system.

One of the four basis products — ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart. KZ say an efficient biology is established in a short time when ZEObak is used together with ZEOstart and/or ZEOfood.

KZ mix ZEObak with Coral Snow to deal with slime algae. Bulk Reef Supply, who carry the line, put a figure on it: one drop of ZEObak per 25 US gallons added to Coral Snow, dosed every two days until the cyanobacteria are gone.

Dose it on a different day from the iodide concentrates, CyanoClean and Bio-Mate — that is KZ’s instruction on the iodide products.

No ozone and no UV while you are running the ZEOvit system. That is KZ’s instruction, and the reason is the point of the system: ozone and UV destroy the microorganisms and elements the whole method depends on.

KZ’s own target water parameters, for any tank running their products: calcium 400–410 mg/L, magnesium 1,260–1,280 mg/L, carbonate hardness 6.5–8, potassium 380–400 mg/L, salinity 33–35 ppt. They add a warning worth repeating: higher figures bring no advantage. Neither growth nor colouration in SPS corals is improved by pushing past these, and higher levels tend to have negative effects.

Backorder & Dispatch Timeline

This item is stocked to order. Back-orders are consolidated and placed with our overseas suppliers once a month, on the last day of the month, and all such orders are shipped before the 15th of the following month.

Back-orders cannot be cancelled once they have been placed with the supplier. If you cancel before that, payment-gateway charges of 2% plus GST are deducted and the balance refunded. In the rare case a supplier cannot fulfil the item, we will offer you an alternative first, and refund in full with no deduction if you would rather not take it.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
