Seachem Flourite is a stable, porous clay gravel substrate that supports healthy root growth in the natural planted aquarium for its entire life.
Flourite Black Sand is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any freshwater aquarium environment. Flourite Black Sand is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. Flourite Black Sand is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Flourite Black Sand is good for the life of the aquarium and need not be replaced.
What it is. The sand-grade version of Flourite Black, the same porous clay substrate, fracted to a finer, sand-like grain instead of the coarser gravel grade of standard Flourite Black. Same clay mineral base, same “not chemically coated or treated” and pH-neutral claim.
Where this sits in the Seachem range. One of five Flourite variants sharing a common porous-clay chemistry; this is the black, fine-grain option, for a planted layout where a sand look is wanted over visible gravel.
Pack size. Sold in 3.5 kg and 7 kg bags.
Used alone, not as an additive. Most effective as the whole substrate bed on its own; no laterite or other modifier needed, though it can be mixed with other gravel.
No replacement needed. Seachem states it’s good for the life of the aquarium.
Rinse before filling, then fill slowly. Pre-washed at the factory, but being a natural product it can pick up dust in transit. Seachem recommends rinsing before use. Pour into a bowl set on the substrate rather than directly onto the bed, since the fine grain stirs up more easily than gravel.
Some initial cloudiness is normal and clears with mechanical filtration or Clarity.
Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.
Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date: their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.
