Maximum flow rate: 300 US GPH / 1,136 litres per hour.

Power consumption: 5 W on 230–240 V / 50 Hz — which is the Indian supply. (Fluval quote 7 W on the 120 V / 60 Hz North American supply.) Running cost is negligible; this is a filter you leave on 24 hours a day.

Type: non-submersible hang-on-back clip-on power filter, for fresh water and salt water. Maximum water temperature 35 °C.

Adjustable flow control on the intake U-tube, with Fluval's patented refiltration system: when you turn the flow down, up to 50% of the water is processed several times inside the chamber instead, so reducing the flow does not reduce how well it cleans. That is the feature that makes a hang-on filter usable over fish that dislike current.

Made in Italy.

Warranty: Fluval's own manual states three years from the date of purchase for defective parts and workmanship, on the AquaClear and AC Series alike, with proof of purchase. Fluval also offer a further two years free if the product is registered online within 30 days of purchase, at FluvalAquatics.com/warranty.

Compatibility

Tank size: 152–265 litres (40–70 US gal). That is Fluval's rating for this model, and it is the number to buy on.

If your tank is outside that range, the same filter is made in five sizes: AC20 (18–76 L), AC30 (38–114 L), AC50 (76–190 L), AC70 (152–265 L) and AC110 (227–416 L). We also list the AquaClear 50. Erring one size up is usually the better mistake — you can always turn the flow down, and this filter's refiltration system means turning it down does not cost you filtration.

Fresh water and salt water both. Maximum water temperature 35 °C.

Your tank rim. This is a clip-on filter: it hangs on the back wall of the aquarium, so you need the back of the tank standing clear of the wall by more than the 15.5 cm front-to-back measurement quoted above, and a rim it can sit on. Check the intake reaches deep enough for your water level — an extension tube is included on this model for deeper tanks. It will not work on a tank with a fully closed hood unless there is a cut-out at the back.

Media. Fluval's inserts are cut to size for each model, so buy media marked for this one — AC50 media will not fill an AC70 basket and AC70 media will not fit an AC50. The range that fits: Bio-Foam (mechanical), Activated Carbon, Zeo-Carb (carbon plus ammonia remover), Clear-Carb (carbon plus ClearMax, for phosphate, nitrite and nitrate), Ammonia Remover, and BIOMAX (biological). You can mix and match — a marine tank usually runs foam plus BIOMAX, a new freshwater tank benefits from Ammonia Remover, and a planted tank often skips carbon altogether.

Surface skimmer attachment: Fluval make an add-on surface skimmer for this filter, and state that it fits both the AC and the AquaClear generations. Sold separately.

Spare parts are available individually — impeller assembly, motor unit, seal ring, filter case, cover, media basket, intake tubes. The motor unit is the same part across the AC20 to AC70 models. A worn impeller is the usual reason one of these gets noisy, and it is a cheap part.

Safety & Precautions

From Fluval's manual, which covers the AquaClear and AC Series filters together. This is a mains appliance sitting on the rim of a tank full of water.

If it falls in the water, do not reach for it. Unplug it first, then retrieve it. If any electrical part gets wet, unplug it immediately.

Unplug everything in the aquarium before you put your hands in the water, and before fitting or removing any part. Pull the plug itself, never the cord. Unplug it when it is not in use.

Use a drip loop. Position the filter to one side of a wall socket rather than directly below it, and leave a loop of cord hanging below the level of the socket so water running down the cable drips off instead of reaching the outlet. If the plug or socket does get wet, do not unplug it — switch off the fuse or breaker first, then unplug and check for water.

The power cord cannot be replaced. Fluval are explicit: if the cord is damaged, the appliance should be discarded. Never cut it. Do not run the filter with a damaged cord or plug, or after it has been dropped or damaged.

Never let it run dry. Fill the filter case with water before switching on. Running the pump dry will damage it, and it is the single most common way these filters are killed.

If it leaks, or if your RCD trips, disconnect the supply cord from the mains and take the pump out of the water.

Maximum water temperature 35 °C. Indoor, domestic ornamental aquariums only — not swimming pools or bathtubs. Do not install or store it where it will be exposed to weather or to freezing temperatures.

Non-submersible. This is a hang-on filter pump; the motor is not made to be under water.

Check the rating label against your supply before you plug it in, and make sure the filter is securely mounted before you run it.

Children: usable by children aged 3 and above, and by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, only with supervision or instruction and an understanding of the hazards. Children must not play with it, and must not clean or maintain it unsupervised.

Attachments: using parts that Fluval do not recommend or sell can create an unsafe condition and will invalidate the warranty.

Extension leads: use one rated for at least the appliance's current, and route it so it cannot be tripped over or pulled. The connection should be made by a qualified electrician.

Cleaning: no soaps and no detergents, ever. Lukewarm water only.

What's in the Box

All the media, included: Bio-Foam for mechanical filtration, Activated Carbon for chemical, and BIOMAX ceramic rings for biological. Fluval supply the full media set with the filter, so there is nothing else to buy to run it on day one.

A note on generations. Fluval have renamed this line: AquaClear is now the Fluval AC Series, and the two share the manual, the media and the warranty. Fluval list the intake sponge and the self-levelling interface as AC Series improvements, so an earlier AquaClear box contains the filter, the media basket and the three media inserts but not those two items. If knowing exactly which revision you are getting matters to you, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we will check the stock.

Warranty & Support

This product carries a 2-year manufacturer warranty from the date of purchase, covering material and manufacturing defects.

Warranty support is handled by us directly. Message our WhatsApp support with your order number and we will diagnose the fault first — most cases are solved by replacing a single part, so you rarely need to send the whole unit. If the item does need to come back, it ships to our Delhi or Pune warehouse, whichever one served your order, and courier cost in both directions is borne by the customer. Your GST invoice is valid proof of purchase for the claim.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number — or email us, if you would rather — and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
