Optimized bio-filter medium with perfect volume usage, long intervals between cleaning and top decomposition performance. SUBSTRAT pro consists of pearl-shaped sintered glass. The spherical shape gives a high bulk density. Thus the whole of the volume in the filter (filter baskets or modules) can be utilized. Also the optimum surface of the beads provides intensive colonization of the important purification bacteria. Due to the high number of bacteria, peak nitrite loads are more easily reduced and the maintenance intervals of the filter material are longer. EHEIM SUBSTRAT pro is suitable for fresh and marine water, is washable and can be reused.

Tip: Never clean or change all the filter media together in one operation (and never clean too rigorously). The bacteria cultures must not be completely destroyed, otherwise re-colonization will be retarded. The filter baskets in the external filters and filter modules in the internal filters aqua-ball and biopower are ideal for partial cleaning.

What it is. EHEIM SUBSTRATpro is the pearl-shaped version of EHEIM’s sintered-glass biological media: spherical beads rather than SUBSTRAT’s irregular pieces, which pack more efficiently and support a higher density of nitrifying bacteria for the same volume.

Where this sits in the EHEIM range. One step up from standard SUBSTRAT: EHEIM’s own claim is better reduction of nitrite loads and longer intervals between cleans, which matters most on a heavily stocked or newly cycling tank.

Setup & Use

How it goes in. Same layering rule as SUBSTRAT: place it in the biological stage after mechanical pre-filtration, and never replace the whole volume of biological media at once; stagger it so an established culture is always present.

Cleaning, not replacing. Reusable. Rinse in removed aquarium water only, never tap water. Rated by EHEIM for both freshwater and marine use, with a 2-year manufacturer guarantee on the medium itself.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date. Their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 48 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
