50 to 100 US Gal / 150 to 500 L. That is Fluval’s rating for the 407, the largest of the four 07 Series canisters.
Fluval’s published figures for the 407 (item #A449, UPC 015561104494): pump output 383 US GPH / 1,450 LPH, filter circulation 245 US GPH / 930 LPH, vertical pre-filter 1,074 cm², basket volume 4.2 L, total chamber volume 6.0 L, canister volume 9.2 L, maximum head pressure 7 ft / 2.25 m, 20 W at 230–240 V / 50 Hz (23 W at 120 V), and 24 × 18 × 49 cm.
If the 407 is the wrong size: the 107 covers 40–130 L at 550 LPH and 10 W, the 207 covers 60–220 L at 780 LPH and 10 W, and the 307 covers 90–330 L at 1,150 LPH and 15 W at 230 V. Those are Fluval’s own numbers, and the 230 V wattage is the one that matters on Indian mains.
The spares that fit a 407, by Fluval item number, all of which we stock: impeller with ceramic shaft and rubber bushing A20169 (the 107/207 part A20109 does not fit), motor head gasket A20038, ribbed hosing A20015 (9.8 ft / 3 m × 17 mm), media basket A20043, and the intake/output kit A20052.
Fluval’s installation requirements, and they are not suggestions. This is a gravity-fed system, so: the filter must always sit below the aquarium; the canister base must never be more than 4.5 ft / 1.4 m below the water level; the water level must never be more than 7 in / 17.5 cm below the aquarium rim; hosing must run a straight path from filter to rim with no loops and very little slack; and the intake tube must not sit near an air stone, an aeration device or the output — air drawn into the strainer kills filter efficiency.
Fluval budget 30 to 45 minutes for setup and ask for a utility knife. Do not plug the filter in until setup is complete and the unit is full of water, and keep the water level below the output nozzle while you work.
How the water moves through an 07. Fluval’s own description: the water first passes through the foam pads as it moves to the bottom of the canister, then rises to the top through the media trays and exits. The vertical pre-filter cartridge has its own independent access, so the part that clogs first can be cleaned without opening the media stack.
Fluval’s recommended maintenance frequency for the 07 Series:
Magnetic impeller and impeller well — replace the impeller yearly
Ceramic shaft — check and clean monthly
Ribbed hosing — check and clean monthly
Intake stem and strainer — replace yearly
Primer assembly with primer cover — check and clean yearly
Motor head gasket — check and clean every 3 months
AquaStop O-ring gaskets — replace yearly
Their footnotes are worth reading too: the impeller wears out and should be replaced yearly as a preventative step; the motor head gasket deteriorates and must be replaced yearly to avoid leaks; pipes gradually block with protein slime and waste; and the impeller cover must be refitted the right way up.
Never change all the media at once. Fluval repeat this in every manual: the beneficial bacteria live on the media, so staggering replacement is what keeps the biological filter alive through a service. Rinse media in water taken out of the aquarium — never under the tap, and never with soap or detergent.
Unplug everything in the tank before your hands go in the water. That is Fluval’s own instruction and it covers every appliance in the aquarium, not just this one. Grasp the plug and pull it; never yank the cord.
Indoor, domestic, ornamental aquariums only, and never above 35 °C. Fluval rate this as a non-submersible aquarium filter-pump for household use in fresh or salt water, with a maximum water temperature of 35 °C. It is not for ponds, swimming pools or bathrooms, must not be stored where it will meet weather or freezing temperatures, and must not be run dry. The 35 °C ceiling is worth remembering here — a closed room through an Indian summer can take an uncooled tank close to it.
Arrange a drip loop. Fluval ask you to position the appliance to one side of a wall socket and leave a loop of cable hanging below the socket, so water running down the cord drips off before it reaches the outlet. If the plug or socket does get wet, do not pull the plug — kill the circuit at the breaker first, then unplug and inspect.
The power cord cannot be replaced. Fluval state this plainly: if the cord is damaged the appliance must be discarded, and the cord must never be cut. There is no repair for it, here or anywhere. The same goes for a unit that has been dropped, is malfunctioning, or shows abnormal leakage — Fluval’s instruction is to stop using it rather than open it up.
Do not attempt repairs yourself. Fluval’s instruction is to return the appliance to an authorised service facility or discard it. If it falls into the water, do not reach for it — unplug at the wall first. If it leaks or trips an RCD, disconnect it from the mains.
Silicone lubricant only. Fluval are explicit about this in both the 07 Series and FX manuals: seals and O-rings are lubricated with a silicone-based lubricant only, and they name their own Fluval Silicone Lubricant (item #A325). Petroleum jelly and vegetable- or animal-based products are not to be used, and Fluval say that using anything else voids the guarantee.
Fluval’s note on children: the appliance may be used by children aged 8 and above, and by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capability, only under supervision or instruction. Children are not to play with it, and cleaning and user maintenance are not to be done by children unsupervised.
Fluval’s published contents list for the 407:
Bio-Foam Max, Bio-Foam, Bio-Foam+, Carbon 2.46 oz / 70 g, Quick-Clear, AquaStop valve, ribbed hosing, rim connectors, intake tube, intake strainer, intake stem with intake strainer, pre-filter basket, media basket, media basket cover, media basket handle, 1 in / 30 mm suction cup, output nozzle, rubber hose connectors and the instruction manual.
All the media is in the box. Mechanical, chemical and biological — you do not need to buy a first fill. What you will need within a few months is replacement media, because Fluval’s own schedule turns most of it over on a three- to six-month cycle.
This product carries a 3-year manufacturer warranty from the date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship, which Fluval extends to 5 years free of charge if you register the product.
Warranty support is handled by us directly. Message our WhatsApp support with your order number and we will diagnose the fault first. Most cases are solved by replacing a single part, so you rarely need to send the whole unit. Your GST invoice is valid proof of purchase for the claim.
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.
If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.

Previously I had fluval 406 and then upgraded to the newer model 407. I must say it is a worthy upgrade.

I’m very happy with the performance. The tank water is crystal clear inspite of 6 big oscars producing heavy bioloads. I’d suggest anyone who wish to go for a canister filter for a big aquarium to consider Fluval 407
