Fluval 106/206 Impeller Shaft with Rubber Bushing is suitable for:
– Fluval 106 External Canister Filter.
– Fluval 206 External Canister Filter.
The Fluval Magnetic Impeller 106 / 206 is a replacement part for keeping your filter running at full performance — see our guide to choosing filter media for how media and hardware work together in a filtration system.
Specifications
Fluval item #A20112, UPC 015561301121. Fluval's own name for this part is “Impeller, Shaft & Rubber Bushing for 106/206 Canister Filter” — three components supplied together as the wearing set inside the pump.
Fluval publish no dimensions for it. The item number is the identification that matters, and it is printed on the pack.
Compatibility
106/206 only. That is Fluval's own compatibility statement for A20112. The 306 (A20153) and 406 (A20173) take different impellers — within the 06 Series, three canister sizes means three separate parts.
The 07 Series equivalents are different parts again — A20109 for the 107/207, A20149 for the 307 and A20169 for the 407, all of which use a ceramic shaft rather than this one. Match the item number on your old part and you cannot go wrong.
Setup & Use
Fluval's canister maintenance charts put impeller replacement at once a year. On both the 07 Series and the FX chart it is a yearly item, and Fluval's footnote gives the reason: the impeller wears out over time, so replacing it yearly is a preventative step rather than a repair. The shaft is checked and cleaned monthly on the same schedule.
Fit the impeller cover the right way up. Fluval call this out specifically in their maintenance footnotes — it goes back on in one orientation, and the wrong one costs flow.
Close the valves, unplug, then drain. Before any part of a canister filter comes off, Fluval's sequence is: turn the IN and OUT valves to the closed (horizontal) position, unplug the pump, then disconnect. The canister sits below the tank and is full of water — opening it in the wrong order empties it onto the floor, and on an FX4 or FX6 that is fourteen to twenty litres.
Rinse, do not scrub. Clean the impeller and its magnet in clean water and clear the impeller well with a small brush or a cotton bud. No detergent, no soap.
Safety & Precautions
Close the valves, unplug, then drain. Before any part of a canister filter comes off, Fluval's sequence is: turn the IN and OUT valves to the closed (horizontal) position, unplug the pump, then disconnect. The canister sits below the tank and is full of water — opening it in the wrong order empties it onto the floor, and on an FX4 or FX6 that is fourteen to twenty litres.
Unplug everything in the tank before your hands go in the water. That is Fluval's own instruction and it covers every appliance in the aquarium, not just this one. Grasp the plug and pull it; never yank the cord.
A spare is only as safe as the unit it goes into. Fluval's standing instructions still apply to the filter itself: the power cord cannot be replaced or cut, a unit that has been dropped or shows abnormal leakage should not be put back into service, and repairs go to an authorised service facility rather than a kitchen table.
What's in the Box
The impeller, its shaft and the rubber bushing. All three, per Fluval's own product name. The bushing is the part people forget to change and then wonder why a new impeller still rattles.
