The “-1” in the article number is the dark finish. ISTA’s catalogue lists each PRO Scissors shape twice: I-547 is the curve-end in mirror polish, I-547-1 is the same shape anodised matt black. The pattern repeats across the range — I-545 and I-545-1 straight, I-538 and I-538-1 wave — so the suffix is a finish, not a different blade.

ISTA publish no length, no weight and no finish dimension for their clip and scissor range — not in the current 2024 catalogue and not in the 2022 one either, which we checked specifically to see whether an older edition carried them. Their entries give the article number, the description and the carton quantity, and nothing else. If the working length decides your choice, ask us and we will measure the one in stock.

Setup & Use

The curve is for cutting along a surface rather than into it. Trimming a carpet flat with straight blades means the tips dig in at one end of the stroke; a curved blade follows the contour and takes an even height off. The same applies to trimming moss on wood or a bush that has grown against the glass.

It also cuts at the back of the tank without your wrist bending. The curve puts the blade where you want it while the handles stay above the water line.

Cut stems above a node. The plant branches from the node; a cut made between nodes leaves a stump that does nothing for weeks.

Little and often. Frequent light trims keep light reaching the lower growth. One drastic cut removes so much plant mass at once that the tank’s nutrient balance tips towards algae.

Remove the clippings. Left floating, they rot.

Rinse and dry after every use. ISTA’s own caution for their tool range. Stainless steel resists rust; it does not ignore salt or hard-water minerals left to dry on it. Rinse under the tap, wipe with a soft towel, put it away dry.

Keep them out of reach of children. Also ISTA’s, and worth repeating for anything with a point or an edge on it.

Keep tank tools to one tank if you are managing anything with a disease or pest history. A tool is as good a way to move snails and algae between tanks as a net is.

The black finish is a coating on steel. Treat it as you would any anodised surface: no abrasives, no scouring pads. Rinse and dry.

Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
