This Red Sea REEFER G2+ system is a complete, cabinet-integrated marine aquarium built for hobbyists who want reliable, all-in-one reef-ready performance.

Description

Unlock a new level of efficiency and intelligence for your saltwater aquarium with the Reefer DC Skimmer Pump Upgrade Kit. If you currently own a regular AC pump Reefer Skimmer, this kit offers a seamless transformation into a smart DC skimmer, packed with features designed to elevate your aquarium’s filtration game.

Why Upgrade?

Self-Leveling Technology: Say goodbye to skimmer overflows forever. Red Sea’s innovative sensor monitors foam wetness and waste levels, activating the Self-Leveling feature when necessary. This intelligent system adjusts pump intensity in real time, preventing over-skimming and messy overflows. Unlike basic float switch systems, the Reefer DC Skimmer maintains water oxygenation while still preventing a messy overflow situation.

Connects to the ReefBeat Eco-System: Seamlessly integrate your Reefer DC skimmer with the ReefBeat app. Take full control and monitor your skimmer’s status from your phone. Sync with other ReefBeat connected gear to automate routines and set quick actions, so your equipment works together in perfect harmony.

What’s Included?

PSK-DC 1200 pump
Skim Sensor
Controller Cable
Universal Power Supply

Specifications

What Red Sea publish for the REEFER Skimmer RSK-900 DC upgrade:

Pump Sicce PSK DC-1200, variable intensity
Default pump intensity for this skimmer 100%
Air flow rate at that intensity 900 l/hr
Power 30 W
Full-cup pump intensity 35%
Full-cup air flow rate 400 l/hr

The skimmer this kit goes into is rated by Red Sea at 900 L / 240 gal for an SPS-dominant system, 1,800 L / 500 gal for a mixed reef and 2,700 L / 740 gal for fish only.

All three REEFER Skimmer upgrade kits use the same PSK DC-1200 pump. What differs is the default intensity the ReefRun Dual controller applies once you tell the ReefBeat app which skimmer model it is driving — Red Sea set each one for that skimmer’s reaction-chamber size and venturi, and recommend leaving it alone.

What Red Sea do not publish for this model:

  • Pump dimensions or weight
  • A noise figure
  • Cable lengths
  • The pump’s DC supply voltage

Those rows are simply not on Red Sea’s specification sheet or in the manual, so we have left them blank rather than fill them in. If one of them decides your purchase, ask us before ordering and we will put the question to Red Sea.

Compatibility

This kit fits the Red Sea REEFER Skimmer RSK-900. The PSK DC-1200 is an exact drop-in replacement for the PSK AC pump already in that skimmer.

A ReefRun Dual Controller is not optional. Red Sea’s own wording is that the PSK DC-1200 pump and self-levelling sensor “can only be used when connected to a ReefRun Dual controller”. The controller is a separate purchase and drives up to two devices — two ReefRun return pumps, one DC skimmer, or one of each. Without it the pump will not run at all.

The kit also changes the skimmer’s lid. The original lid comes off, the DC-Skimmer lid supplied here goes on, and the neck wiper transfers across to it. The plastic plugs in the sensor holes are replaced by the rubber grommets supplied.

In ReefBeat you must tell the controller which REEFER Skimmer model it is driving — RSK300, RSK600 or RSK900 — so the correct default intensity is applied.

This is a ReefBeat device. Full functionality needs Red Sea’s free ReefBeat app on an Android or iOS phone or tablet, a home Wi-Fi network and a live internet connection. Without internet you can still run it in Offline or Direct mode, but remote access, control from more than one device and status notifications are not available.

Safety & Precautions

  • Indoor use only. Use only the power supply that came with the unit — a supply rated for fewer watts than the appliance can overheat.
  • Do not run the unit if the cord or plug is damaged, if it is malfunctioning, or if it has been dropped. Do not attempt a cord repair yourself; return it for service or discard it.
  • Leave a drip loop in every cord — the low point of the cable must sit below the socket so water running down the cable drips off rather than reaching the outlet. If a plug or socket does get wet, do not unplug it: kill the circuit at the breaker first.
  • Unplug before fitting or removing parts and before cleaning. Pull the plug, never the cord.
  • Keep children away from the equipment, and do not touch moving parts while it is running.
  • Do not install or store it where it will be exposed to weather or to temperatures below freezing.
  • The rubber grommets are not trim. They are what holds the skim-sensor securely in the lid — fit them before the sensor, wider flange upwards.
  • The sensor has two probes and they are not interchangeable. The long probe is the neck sensor and goes in the hole in the inner recessed part of the lid; the short probe is the cup sensor and goes in the hole on the upper surface.
  • Leave about 50 cm / 20″ of loose sensor cable near the skimmer so you can lift it out for maintenance without unthreading the run.
  • Do not orient the lid with the cup sensor directly above the FoamView window — that position produces false full-cup alerts.
  • Calibrate each probe on its own, in a cup of water taken from the sump. Immersing both at once, or dipping a probe straight into the sump, gives a wrong reading and the self-levelling will not work properly. Repeat the calibration after a controller factory reset or a sensor replacement.
  • Do not switch on over-skim protection on a new skimmer or a new set-up until skimming is stable and the mechanical regulator is set correctly. Self-levelling corrects a well-set skimmer; it does not rescue a badly set one.
  • The pump will not start until the controller has been onboarded to ReefBeat and the pump set up. That is expected behaviour on a first install, not a fault.

Warranty & Support

This product is covered by warranty as per the manufacturer policy, against material and manufacturing defects from the date of purchase.

Warranty support is handled by us directly. Message our WhatsApp support with your order number and we will diagnose the fault first.
