Discus Trace supplies a broad range of trace elements demonstrated to be necessary for proper fish health and growth. Unlike terrestrial animals, fish obtain nutrients from both their food and environment. Trace elements are normally depleted by utilization, oxidation and precipitation, thus it is important to restore them on a regular basis. Discus Trace contains only those elements actually demonstrated to be required by fish. Aquarium salt is often used to add salts back to aquarium water. Some fish will tolerate this therapeutic use of salt; however, some fish are less tolerant. Discus as a species will not tolerate this elevated level of sodium in the water. If you keep live plants in your discus aquarium, the plants will not tolerate this either. Discus Trace is a well rounded trace mineral supplement that does not contain sodium and is used to replenish trace and ultra trace minerals that are demonstrated to be necessary for fish health and growth.

Seachem cite their source for that: Nutrient Requirements of Fish, National Academy of Sciences, pp. 16–21, 1993 — which is more than most supplement labels will give you.

It contains no sodium, and that is the whole point. Aquarium salt is the usual way people put minerals back, and discus tolerate the resulting sodium poorly. Live plants in the same tank tolerate it no better. This supplies the minerals without the salt.

Rate: 1 capful (5 mL) per 80 L (20 US gallons), twice a week. The 250 mL bottle is fifty capfuls — about six months of twice-weekly dosing on a 80 L tank.

Setup & Use

Twice a week, one capful per 80 L. Regular small doses beat occasional large ones, because trace elements are lost to oxidation and precipitation as fast as they are lost to the fish — a big dose mostly falls out of solution before anything uses it.

It matters most in a soft-water discus tank. If you are running RO water, or using Discus Buffer to strip hardness, you are removing trace elements at the same time. This is what puts them back, and Seachem pair the two products for exactly that reason.

Safe in planted tanks, which is not true of the sodium-chloride alternative.

Buy the size you will get through in a reasonable time and keep the bottle closed, cool and out of direct sun. A part-used bottle that has stood open for a year is poorer value than a small fresh one whatever it cost per millilitre.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
