Pond HealthGuard is a safe disinfectant to promote the control of parasitic, bacterial, fungal, and viral infestations of fish in ponds. It contains no malachite green or other dye based disinfectants that can discolor or quaternary disinfectants that foam. Used as directed, it is safe for fish, plants, and the biological filter. A 2 Liter size treats over 4,000 gallons.

Specifications

Seachem item #2619 (4 L). A pond disinfectant for the control of parasitic, bacterial, fungal and viral infestations in fish.

The active ingredient is buffered glutaric dialdehyde. Seachem name it on the label. That matters because it is what the product is not: no malachite green or other dye-based disinfectant, so it will not stain the water or the liner; and no quaternary disinfectant, so it will not foam.

Rate: 125 mL (half a cup) per 1,000 L (250 US gallons) daily until conditions improve, then 125 mL per 2,000 L (500 US gallons) daily for about a week afterwards. For prophylactic use, a quarter dose.

Coverage: this 4 L jug is 32 full doses at the treatment rate — enough to treat a 4,000 L pond for eight consecutive days, or a 1,000 L pond for a month.

Working out pond volume, Seachem's way: multiply average length by average width by average depth. Measure in metres and multiply by 1,000 for litres; measure in feet and multiply by 7.5 for US gallons. For an irregular pond take as many measurements as you practically can, because overestimating the volume means overdosing the fish. Subtract the water displaced by potted plants, rocks and decoration.

Compatibility

Decorative ponds only. Seachem's label restricts it to decorative ponds and forbids use in natural bodies of water.

Safe as directed for fish, plants and the biological filter — and, per Seachem's own answer to the question, for snails and frogs too.

Do not use it alongside any other treatment. Seachem's instruction is flat: not in conjunction with other treatments.

Do not use it if copper or zinc are present.

Do not use it if Dimilin has ever been used in the pond. Not recently — ever. Seachem's technical answer on this is the most serious warning on their page: the two interact, the mixture foams, and it is very toxic. Removing the Dimilin requires a 100% water change. If you have inherited a pond and do not know its history, that is a reason to ask before you dose.

Do not use it above 30 °C (86 °F), or where oxygen is already depressed.

Setup & Use

Dispense it widely across the pond. Pouring the dose in one place makes a local overdose wherever the fish happen to be.

Test on a few fish first if you are treating many. Seachem's instruction. Watch for surface breathing or other abnormal behaviour; if you see it, do not redose. If the signs are acute, start replacing water immediately to dilute the product.

If you are not sure how the fish will take it, use a quarter to a half dose and proceed carefully. Seachem say plainly that no treatment is without risk and this one should not be used carelessly.

It normally clears within 24 hours — but not always. In exceptionally clean water it can persist longer, and then the next daily dose stacks on top of the last. Delay redosing if the pond is very clean.

Hazy water plus this product can strip oxygen. Be ready to replace water with oxygenated water if you dose into a pond that is not clear.

Expect a gill reaction if the fish are carrying flukes. Death or rapid release of gill flukes stresses gills in some species — that is the treatment working, and it is another reason to have aeration running.

Safety & Precautions

Seachem's label warning, in full: Keep away from children. For decorative pond use only. Do not use in natural bodies of water. Do not eat, drink, or get into eyes.

WARNING: contains buffered glutaric dialdehyde. Avoid any contact with the eyes. In case of eye exposure, wash promptly with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention.

Wear gloves and eye protection when measuring 125 mL of it. That is our advice rather than Seachem's, and it follows from theirs: a half-cup pour from a 4 L jug over a pond edge is exactly the situation where a splash reaches a face.

Do not decant it into an unlabelled container. A disinfectant with an eye-damage warning should never end up in a jug someone else might pick up.

What's in the Box

No measure or dosing cup is documented. The dose is 125 mL — half a US cup — so you will need a marked jug of your own, kept for this purpose and nothing else.

Seachem publish no parts or accessory list for this pack, and their own product photography shows the container alone. We would rather tell you that than invent a contents list. If you need to know whether a particular pack ships with a scoop before you order, ask us and we will open one and look.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number — or email us, if you would rather — and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
