Seachem Safe is the complete and super-concentrated dry conditioner for both fresh and salt water. Safe removes chlorine, chloramine and detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. It is non-acidic and will not impact pH. A further bonus for the reef hobbyist—Safe will not over-activate skimmers.

Safe may be used during tank cycling to alleviate ammonia/nitrite toxicity. It contains a binder which renders ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate non-toxic, allowing the biofilter to more efficiently remove them. Use at start-up and whenever adding or replacing water. When transporting or quarantining fish, use Seachem StressGuard. When adding new fish, use Stability. Both are ideal for use with Safe.

Specifications

Seachem item #0389 (4 kg). The dry, super-concentrated form of Seachem's conditioner chemistry, for fresh and salt water. It removes chlorine and chloramine and detoxifies ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

Rate for this pack: 1.25 g (a quarter teaspoon) per 1,250 L (about 300 US gallons) for chlorine and chloramine, or per 300 L (about 80 US gallons) where ammonia is the problem. Read that twice — a quarter teaspoon treats over a thousand litres. The 4 kg tub is, on the chlorine figure, four million litres of water.

The 50 g pack doses differently. Seachem's small size uses 200 mg per 200 L for chlorine and chloramine, or per 50 L for ammonia. If you are stepping up to this tub from a 50 g one, do not carry the old measure across. Seachem's own note on the current directions is blunt: they supersede all prior packaging.

Non-acidic. It will not impact pH, and it will not over-activate skimmers — the reason reefkeepers reach for it.

Seachem make the line in 50 g, 250 g, 1 kg, 4 kg and 20 kg.

Setup & Use

Use it at start-up and whenever you add or replace water.

Do not pre-dissolve it and keep the solution. This is the one thing that catches people moving from Prime. Safe contains no stabilisers, so a dissolved batch does not keep — mix what you are about to use and use it.

Up to four times the dose is permitted in an emergency, to detoxify nitrite and nitrate. That is Seachem's stated ceiling, not a suggestion to round up routinely.

Half dose above 30 °C when chlorine and ammonia are low. Warm water holds less oxygen and the margin for a heavy dose is smaller.

It also regenerates Purigen: 16 g per cup of water. If you run Purigen, that alone can justify the tub.

Measure it, do not eyeball it. At this concentration the difference between a quarter teaspoon and a heaped one is several hundred litres of dosing error.

Keep the tub closed and dry. These are hygroscopic powders. A tub that has caked has also changed density, and a level teaspoon of caked powder is not the dose printed on the label.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months' remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number — or email us, if you would rather — and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
