Tropica Specialized Fertilizer contains nitrogen and phosphorus plus iron and manganese, suited to fast-growing, demanding planted tanks.
Specialized Fertilizer is added each week when the water is changed. The pump bottle dispenses 2 mL per push.
We recommend 6 mL (3 pumps) per 50 L water weekly. However, we recommended that this is set in accordance with plant requirements. Specialized Fertilizer contains, in addition to micro-nutrients, all essential macro-nutrients. The fertilizer is particularly suitable where plants display a lack of nutrition. However note that if algae growth starts, Specialized Fertilizer will promote this growth.
Specialized Fertilizer contains nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). Dosage must therefore be adapted to plant absorption rates, to avoid undesirable algae growth. Where signs of algae growth develop, reduce the dosage by 50% and increase water changing frequency by 50%. Changing the water not only reduces the concentration of nutrients in the water, but also removes algae spores, remnants and other accumulated elements from the aquarium water.
Freshwater aquariums with many, fast-growing plants. This is Tropica’s complete fertiliser: micro-nutrients plus all the essential macro-nutrients.
What it adds that Premium does not: nitrogen and phosphorus. In a densely planted tank the plants strip nitrate and phosphate out of the water faster than the fish can replace them, and growth stalls even though the tank looks well-stocked. This puts them back.
Tropica’s declaration, W/W%:
N 1.3%, P 0.1%, K 1.0%, Mg 0.4%, S 0.9%, B 0.004%, Cu 0.006%, Fe 0.07%, Mn 0.04%, Mo 0.002%, Zn 0.002%.
The trade-off, in Tropica’s words. Because it carries N and P, the dose has to be matched to what the plants actually absorb, or it will feed algae. Tropica are explicit: if algae growth starts, Specialised will promote it.
What to do if algae appear: reduce the dose by 50% and increase the water-change frequency by 50%. Changing water does two things at once — it lowers the nutrient concentration, and it physically removes algae spores, remnants and other accumulated material.
Premium or Specialised? Choose Specialised when the tank is heavily planted with fast growers, when you are running CO2 and strong light, or when your nitrate reads at or near zero. Choose Premium — the same fertiliser without N and P — when the fish outnumber the plants, or the plants are slow growers, and nitrate is already present in the water.
With root feeders. Tropica’s Nutrition Capsules do the same job at the root of heavy feeders such as Echinodorus and Cryptocoryne. Running both is normal in a mixed planting.

I have a heavily planted tank and was using different fert combinations from Seachem. Tropica specialized nutrition is really good. Two pumps on alternate days for my 20 gallon tank. That’s all 🙂 Now I am forced to trim my plants on a weekly basis. This would save your money for sure.
