This hang-on acrylic filter sock holder fits standard 4-inch filter socks, removing food, detritus, and waste for crystal-clear water.

Description

Hang-on filter sock holder fits standard 4″  filter sock, to remove excess food, detritus, organic waste, dust, any particles and results in crystal clear water.

Fits on Glass: 5 mm – 12 mm

Acrylic Material. Screws Included.

Setup & Use

What you are fitting. A single piece of clear acrylic: an inverted-U hook that goes over the top edge of a glass panel, a vertical plate that hangs down on the wet side, and a horizontal arm at the bottom with a horseshoe-shaped cut-out. The two white thumbscrews are already threaded through the outer face of the hook. Nothing needs assembling. That description comes from our own photographs of the part rather than from a manufacturer’s drawing — this is an unbranded item and there is no maker’s data sheet behind it.

Fitting it, step by step. Slide the hook down over the top edge of the panel you want it on, with the horseshoe arm facing into the water and the thumbscrews on the outside. Line it up so the sock will hang clear of anything below it. Then tighten both thumbscrews finger-tight against the glass — finger-tight is the whole instruction. Do not use pliers on them: they are plastic screws bearing on glass, and over-tightening either strips the thread or, far worse, puts a point load on a panel.

Glass thickness: 5 mm to 12 mm. Measure the panel before you order. Thinner than 5 mm and the thumbscrews run out of travel before they grip; thicker than 12 mm and the hook will not go over the edge at all. Common Indian sump baffles are 6 mm and 8 mm, which sit comfortably in the middle of that range.

Fitting the sock. The horseshoe is open at the front for a reason — slide the sock’s moulded collar in from the front and let it drop so the collar rests on the acrylic arm and the bag hangs free below. It should hang straight, not against a wall or a baffle, and the mouth should sit below the water inlet so the incoming water actually goes into the sock rather than splashing round it.

Fits standard 4 inch socks, which is the collar diameter, not the length — a 4 × 7, 4 × 12 or 4 × 14 inch sock all share the same collar. Check the depth you have underneath: the sock must hang clear of the sump floor with room to sag as it loads. Ours are 14 inches long, which needs a deep first chamber.

This holder takes one sock. If you want two — so you can swap one out without stopping the flow, which is how most people run them — we sell a double version of the same holder.

Changing the sock. A sock is a mechanical filter, and the waste it traps stays in the water until you take it out. Ours is not a manufacturer’s schedule, it is our advice: on a normally stocked tank, change it every two to four days, and rinse or replace it the moment water starts running over the rim instead of through the mesh. A neglected sock stops being a filter and becomes a nitrate factory.

Looking after the acrylic. Acrylic scratches easily and crazes on contact with solvents. Clean it with warm water and a soft cloth — never acetone, alcohol, ammonia-based glass cleaner or an abrasive pad. Salt creep comes off with warm water and patience. Take the holder off and dry it if the sump is going to sit empty for any length of time.

Check the screws now and then. Thumbscrews on a wet plastic thread work loose over months, and a holder that drops into the sump takes the sock and its contents with it. Give them a turn whenever you do a water change.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number — or email us, if you would rather — and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.

Full terms are on our Cancellation & Returns page.
