RP Aquatics Phosphate Gone is a premium ion-exchange resin that removes phosphate quickly and safely, lasting up to 12 weeks.
Phosphate Gone is a premium-grade Phosphate selective, ion-exchange resin. It removes Phosphate quickly and safely from aquarium water and lasts up to 12 weeks.
Our round PODS are a unique Aquatic application manufactured by RP Aquatics, allowing unrestricted flow within the canister filter which is vital for the bacteria Population.
FEATURES
Phosphate Gone is an essential additive to Aquariums, removing both IONIC & CHEMICALLY BOUND phosphate quicker than any other product on the market and can last up to 12 weeks. It uses a premium grade ion exchange resin which works in a wide range of pH parameters and temperature conditions.
Each pack contains three individually sealed 100 g pods, together sufficient for up to 1500 litres of water.
APPLICATION
For use in external canister filters and some large internal filters. Our PODs MUST be placed flat (not squashed up), to maximise exposure to water flow after the biological section to function correctly. They can be used in conjunction with our other products.
Rinse the pods before use. RP’s data sheet asks for it and
it takes ten seconds.
How many pods:
A pack holds three pods, so one pack covers a tank of any size up to 1500
litres.
Where they go, and this is the part that matters. The pods
must sit after the biological media in the flow, and they
must lie flat and not squashed up, so water passes across
their full face rather than round the outside of a wedged lump. RP are blunt
about why the order matters: putting chemical media ahead of the biological stage
starves the filter bacteria of their food source. In an external canister that
means the top basket, laid flat; in some large internal filters the same rule
applies.
Running a sump instead? RP’s own instruction is to release
the resin from the pods and run it loose in a media reactor, at a flow rate
of 50 to 150 litres per hour. That is a slow-flow reactor
setting, not a full-bore one — too fast and the water does not spend
long enough in contact with the resin.
Clean the filter first. RP recommend cleaning the filter
or reactor before fitting the pods, in a new system and a mature one
alike.
Take them out during any medication. Treat these the way
you would treat carbon: an ion-exchange resin sitting in the flow will strip
the treatment you just paid for. Remove the pods for the course, then put them
back.
What to expect, and when. This is a
phosphate-selective resin, so what it changes first is the algae’s food
supply rather than the algae you can already see. Existing growth still has to
be removed by hand; what the pods do is stop it coming back. RP note the resin
works across a wide range of pH and temperature.
Twelve weeks, then discard. RP rate the pods for up to 12
weeks in service and their instruction after that is simply to throw them away
— there is no recharging step, and a used pod left in the filter is at
best inert media taking up a basket.
Handling: gloves are recommended, wash your hands after
handling, and keep the granules out of your eyes — RP note they will
cause irritation, and to rinse thoroughly for several minutes if that
happens.
One thing we cannot resolve from RP’s published material:
their data sheet for this product is headed “Phosphate Gone/Marine”, which reads as
though a separate marine formulation exists, while their consumer page sells a
single product and our listing says it suits tropical, coldwater and marine
alike. We have not changed that claim, but if you are buying for a reef system
and the distinction matters, ask us and we will put it to the supplier rather
than guess from a slash in a document title.
Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.
Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.
