Seachem Gold Buffer

Gold Buffer™ is a non–phosphate buffer that will maintain the ideal pH for goldfish while not enhancing algae growth. Depending on dosage, Gold Buffer™ raises pH and buffers between 7.2 and 7.8. Specifications

Seachem item #0256 (300 g). A non-phosphate buffer for goldfish. It raises pH and buffers between 7.2 and 7.8, preferentially at 7.8 — and it will not lower pH, in either direction, ever.

Composition: sodium, potassium, magnesium and other bicarbonate salts. That is what makes it a carbonate buffer rather than a phosphate one, and it is the whole reason to choose it: no added phosphate means no extra help for algae in a goldfish tank, which is usually brightly lit and heavily fed.

Rate: one level teaspoon per 40 L (10 US gallons), daily until the desired pH is reached. Half dose if the water is soft or poorly buffered — a carbonate buffer moves a long way in water that has nothing to resist it. The 300 g tub is roughly sixty teaspoon doses.

Seachem make the line in 70 g, 300 g and 4 kg.

Setup & Use

It may be added directly to the aquarium at any time. There is no mixing step and no waiting period.

Raise pH slowly and stop at the number you wanted. The buffer prefers 7.8, so if you leave it dosing daily that is where it will settle. If you want 7.4, dose until you get there and then stop rather than continuing on a schedule.

Half dose in soft water. Seachem’s instruction, and it matters more than it sounds: the same teaspoon that nudges hard water will overshoot soft water.

It buffers; it does not dechlorinate. Seachem pair it with Gold Basics for that, and with Gold Trace for the trace elements a water change takes out. This product does one job.

Seachem’s own advice for anyone dosing a powder to a target number is to weigh it rather than scoop it — their Digital Spoon Scale exists for exactly this. A level teaspoon is a usable approximation, not a measurement.

Keep the tub closed and dry. These are hygroscopic powders. A tub that has caked has also changed density, and a level teaspoon of caked powder is not the dose printed on the label.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
