Seachem Renew removes phosphate less aggressively than carbon, making it well suited for reef and planted aquaria.
Renew™ is ideal for use in systems where phosphate released from all activated carbons poses a problem. Renew™ is also less aggressive than carbon, making it well suited for reefs and planted aquaria. It is also beneficial for use in soft water aquaria where the pH-raising property of many carbons is not an asset. Renew™ will remove organics and particulates in the sub-micron range; it will also help control ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates.
Seachem item #0086 (250 mL). A carbon substitute for systems where the phosphate that activated carbons release is a problem. It removes organics and particulates down into the sub-micron range, and helps control ammonia, nitrate and phosphate.
Capacity: 250 mL per 120–160 L (30–40 US gallons).
Service life: 4–6 weeks — about the same as carbon. Seachem make no claim to outlast it; the claim is about what it does not do.
It is deliberately less aggressive than carbon. That is why Seachem put it in reefs and planted tanks, and in soft water where carbon’s pH-raising habit is unwanted. If you want tannins and colour stripped hard, carbon or a stronger resin will do it better; this is the one you choose when you do not want everything taken out.
Seachem make the line in 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 1 L, 2 L and 4 L.
Use it exactly as you would activated carbon. Seachem’s own instruction, word for word — there is no separate technique to learn.
Rinse before use. It is clean, but Seachem advise a rinse anyway.
Put it where water is actually forced through it rather than past it — a canister basket, a chemical filtration module, or the high-flow part of a sump. Media sitting in still water does almost nothing.
Use a filter bag — Seachem name the Zip Bag.
Replace it every 4–6 weeks. There is no colour change to watch for as there is with HyperSorb; this one is on a calendar. Write the date on the bag.
Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.
Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.
