Chemi-pure Blue is specially created for fantastic results in reef and marine aquariums. Boyd's proprietary blend of premium, low-dust pelleted carbon and high-capacity ion-exchange resins is combined into a single all-in-one filter medium in a nylon bag. Chemi-pure Blue significantly reduces organic compounds and phosphates while raising redox and helping stabilize pH for a healthy, crystal clear aquarium.

Dosage & Directions

This unit treats 75 to 100 US gallons — roughly 285 to 380 litres — which is Boyd's rating for the 11 oz size. One bag does the whole of that range; you are not dosing it by volume, you are matching a unit to a system.

Keep it sealed in its container until you are ready to use it. Then rinse and fit it.

Rinse it first, and know what "rinsed" looks like. Boyd's method: hold the unit under running water and gently work the bag until the water starts to run clear. On their QuickWash carbon that takes 5 to 10 seconds; on their older carbon products it can take up to five minutes. Some carbon residue will still come off in the tank afterwards and the water may go briefly cloudy — Boyd say this is normal and harmless, and it clears on its own.

Where it goes. Into a high-flow area of your sump, canister filter or hang-on-back, as the last stage of the filtration path. Boyd add one refinement for Blue specifically: for best results the water should flow gently through the filter bag and media — good exposure to plenty of flow, not a jet driven straight through it. Their FAQ adds the rule that applies to the whole range: never put the unit inside a filter sock.

Replace every 2 to 4 months, depending on bio-load. Boyd define normal use as a moderately stocked aquarium with adequate to highly efficient filtration, and give one practical trigger: if the water starts to go cloudy, change it then rather than waiting for the calendar.

If you run more than one unit, stagger them. Boyd's instruction is to change one bag at a time, a week apart, until all of them have been replaced. Swapping every unit on the same day takes the tank's entire chemical filtration capacity from full to zero in an afternoon, and on a heavily stocked system that shows.

Do not open the bag. Boyd are direct about this: they do not recommend opening any Chemi-pure unit, and specifically warn against buying a large one and splitting it between small tanks. The components are combined in fixed ratios, and dividing them destroys the ratio — their words are that the effectiveness will be greatly diminished. If you need to top a system up to a particular volume, the answer is another whole unit, not half of a big one.

A word about the gallon ratings. Boyd's own FAQ says the recommendation is based on your aquarium's total water volume, and then lists everything that makes that number a starting point rather than an answer: how much of the volume is displaced by rock, gravel and hardscape; whether the tank is lightly or heavily stocked; how much you feed and how much waste that produces; and how efficient your filtration already is. Two tanks of the same litres can need different amounts of media. Read the rating as the ceiling for a well-run tank and step up a size if yours is heavily stocked.

What it is taking out. Boyd's published list for Blue is organic compounds, odours, phenols, toxins, medications, dissolved metals, phosphates and silicates, while raising redox and helping stabilise pH; they also describe it as adsorbing nitrogenous organic molecules and, to some extent, nitrates. Medications are on that list, so take the unit out before you treat a tank and put a fresh one in when the course is finished — otherwise you are dosing the medium rather than the fish.

Pack Size

• One 11 oz unit — approximately 312 g of media, sealed in a nylon filter bag inside its container.
• Boyd SKU CPBLU 11, which is the code on their own size table for this unit.
• Rated for 75 to 100 US gallons — about 285 to 380 litres.
• Service life 2 to 4 months, depending on bio-load.

Not included: no media bag holder, no reactor, no basket and no bracket. The unit is the bag — it goes straight into a filter chamber or a sump section that already has flow through it.

Do not divide it. If you have several small tanks, Boyd's own answer is that opening a unit and splitting the contents ruins the ratio the formula depends on. Buy the size that matches the system.

What Boyd do not publish for this size: the bag's dimensions, the net weight of media as distinct from the 11 oz label figure, and a shelf life for an unopened container.

Backorder & Dispatch Timeline

This item is stocked to order. Back-orders are consolidated and placed with our overseas suppliers once a month, on the last day of the month, and all such orders are shipped before the 15th of the following month.

Back-orders cannot be cancelled once they have been placed with the supplier. If you cancel before that, payment-gateway charges of 2% plus GST are deducted and the balance refunded. In the rare case a supplier cannot fulfil the item, we will offer you an alternative first, and refund in full with no deduction if you would rather not take it.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number — or email us, if you would rather — and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months' remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.
