Each pack contains individually sealed 1 x 80g pods, sufficient for up to 200 litres of water.

How RP sell it, and what you are buying here. RP pack Carbon Clear as either a single pod or a three-pod pack; this listing is the single pod. Over 200 litres you need more than one.

Why the grade of carbon matters. RP’s argument for the price is surface area: a high-grade carbon with more accessible surface means you add less of it for the same organic removal, which in turn means less displaced space in the filter and less flow restriction. It also works across a wide pH and temperature range, which matters if the same product has to serve a tropical tank and a marine one.

What RP do not publish for this product: no iodine number, no surface-area figure in square metres per gram, and no phosphate-leaching statement. Those are the numbers that separate one activated carbon from another, and we are not going to quote figures the manufacturer has not published. If you need a carbon with a certified low phosphate release for a reef tank, tell us and we will point you at one whose maker publishes the number.

Setup & Use

Rinse the pod before use. RP say so for the carbon specifically. Carbon dust is fine, black and gets everywhere; thirty seconds under a running tap until the water runs clear saves you a hazy tank.

Lay the pod flat. RP are emphatic about this and it is the single thing most people get wrong: the pod must sit flat, not squashed into a corner or wedged on edge, so water passes through the whole disc rather than round it. In a canister, that means a tray of its own or the top tray, not stuffed in alongside sponge.

Put it after the biological media, never before. The bacteria come first in the flow path; the chemical media comes after them. RP say the same, and it is why the round pod shape exists — it lets water move freely through the canister instead of damming it.

Clean the filter first on a mature tank. RP recommend servicing an established filter before you fit the pods. A pod dropped into a canister full of accumulated sludge blinds itself in a fortnight.

Take the pods out during any medication course. RP say this explicitly. Both of their media will strip a treatment out of the water; leave them in and you have medicated your filter rather than your fish.

Running a sump or a reactor instead? RP’s own instruction is to cut the media out of the pod and run it loose in a reactor.

Reactor flow rate, if you run the media loose: RP specify 50 to 100 litres per hour through loose Carbon Clear. Slower than most people set a reactor.

Twelve weeks is the outside figure, not a schedule. Activated carbon does not announce when it is full — it simply stops adsorbing. RP’s 12 weeks assumes a normal load. If you are running carbon to clear a specific problem — yellowing water, a medication course you have just finished, tannins from driftwood — the pod does most of its work in the first few days and you should judge it by the water rather than by the calendar.

Carbon after medication, not during it. The order is: dose the treatment with the carbon out, complete the course, then put fresh carbon in to strip the residue. Using a pod that has already been in the tank for two months to clear a medication is asking a saturated media to do a job it cannot.

A note for planted tanks. Carbon removes dissolved organics indiscriminately, and in a planted tank some of what it removes is chelated trace fertiliser. If you dose micronutrients, either run the carbon only when you need it or expect to dose a little more while it is in.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
