Flourite Black is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any freshwater aquarium environment. Flourite Black is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. Flourite Black is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Flourite Black is good for the life of the aquarium and need not be replaced.

Specifications

What it is. Seachem’s own description: a specially fracted, stable porous clay gravel built for the natural planted aquarium, a substrate, not a decorative gravel, made from natural clay ores rather than dyed or resin-coated stone.

Where this sits in the Seachem range. One of five Flourite variants (Flourite, Flourite Black, Flourite Black Sand, Flourite Dark and Flourite Red) that share the same porous clay base and differ mainly in colour and grain. Flourite Black is the standard black gravel grade; Flourite Black Sand is the same material fracted finer, to a sand-like grain.

Composition. A rich mineral clay, not chemically coated or treated. Seachem states it will not alter aquarium pH.

Pack size. Sold in 3.5 kg and 7 kg bags.

Setup & Use

Used alone, not as an additive. Flourite Black is built to be the whole substrate bed on its own: Seachem doesn’t call for a gravel modifier such as laterite underneath it, though it can be mixed with other gravel if wanted.

No replacement needed. Seachem states it’s good for the life of the aquarium, unlike a nutrient-dosed substrate that depletes over time.

Rinse before filling, then fill slowly. It ships pre-washed, but Seachem still recommends a rinse to clear residual dust. When filling, pour into a bowl set on the substrate rather than directly onto the bed, so the gravel isn’t disturbed.

Some initial cloudiness is normal: Seachem describes it clearing within roughly 2 to 12 hours on its own; mechanical filtration or their Clarity product speeds that up.

Works with root-feeding plants and under-gravel filtration. Seachem lists Flourish, Flourish Tabs and Flourish Iron as optional supplements for a heavier plant load on top of the substrate itself.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date: their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 48 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
