Seachem’s HyperSorb is a premium synthetic adsorbent with outstanding organic removal capacity and ionic management abilities; it removes organic waste, toxic vapors and other pollutants. It is ideal for all types of water, including marine, brackish, and a broad spectrum of freshwater from acid to alkaline. In freshwater it will help stabilize the ionic balance and will help control ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. It has all the advantages of carbon and none of the disadvantages. HyperSorb changes color progressively as it becomes exhausted, and then can be easily regenerated with ordinary household bleach. Regeneration is near 100% effective and can be performed repeatedly.

Specifications

Seachem item #0156 (250 mL). A synthetic adsorbent resin — Seachem’s carbon substitute. It removes organic waste, toxic vapours and other pollutants, and in freshwater it helps stabilise ionic balance and control ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.

Capacity: 250 mL treats up to 300 L (75 US gallons).

It tells you when it is finished. The beads discolour progressively from yellow to deep brown as they load. That is the exhaustion indicator, and it is the main practical advantage over carbon, which gives you nothing to look at.

It is regenerable, near 100%, repeatedly. Ordinary household bleach does it. See Setup & Use for the full procedure — it is not a two-minute job and it must be done properly.

Suits marine, brackish and freshwater from acid to alkaline. Seachem’s own comparison, though: in a reef they would rather you used Purigen, which has far greater organic capacity in salt water. HyperSorb is the one they reach for in blackwater, because it is the least aggressive at stripping tannins.

Setup & Use

Use it in a filter bag such as The Bag.

Put it where water is actually forced through it rather than past it — a canister basket, a chemical filtration module, or the high-flow part of a sump. Media sitting in still water does almost nothing.

On rinsing, Seachem contradict themselves. The directions say to rinse before use; their own FAQ says HyperSorb does not need rinsing. We are reporting both rather than picking one. A rinse costs nothing and settles the question.

Regeneration, exactly as Seachem specify it:

1. Soak for 24 hours in a 1:1 bleach and water solution, in a non-metallic container, in a well ventilated area, away from children.
2. Use regular 8.25% hypochlorite household bleach — unscented, no dyes, and not a splash-less formulation.
3. Rinse well, then soak 8 hours in a solution of 4 tablespoons of Prime (or an equivalent dechlorinator) per cup of water.
4. Rinse well again.
5. For freshwater use, soak a further 4 hours in a solution of 2 tablespoons of buffer per cup of water — Discus Buffer or Neutral Regulator.

Do not return it to the tank if you can smell bleach on it. Seachem’s own instruction, and if you are unsure, soak the beads in a little water and test that water with a chlorine test kit. Colour and full activity should be restored before it goes back.

Slime coat products can end its life. Some of them permanently foul the resin and make regeneration difficult or impossible.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
