SeaGel™ is a blend of MatrixCarbon™ and PhosGuard™ and is is optimized specifically for aquaria where organic color body and acid removal is required without the introduction of phosphate. MatrixCarbon™ is an ultracapacity carbon for the removal of organic and color impurities. PhosGuard™ is a powerful remover of phosphate, silicate, toxic metals, and acids. Both components are bead shaped for optimum water flow characteristics and penetration. The components enhance each other and are ideal for reef and marine use. SeaGel™ may also be used in freshwater that is not phosphate buffered.

Although MatrixCarbon™ has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested, some phosphate is still released. Adding PhosGuard™ to the mix compensates for this. Both components are bead shaped for optimum water flow characteristics and penetration. The components enhance each other and are ideal for reef and marine use.

Composition & Analysis

What it is. Seagel is a 50/50 blend of two Seachem media in one bag: MatrixCarbon, an ultracapacity activated carbon for organic and colour-impurity removal, and PhosGuard, Seachem’s aluminum oxide phosphate/silicate remover. Both are bead-shaped for water-flow characteristics, Seachem states, rather than the irregular granules of ordinary carbon.

Why the two are combined. Activated carbon can leach a small amount of phosphate back into the water; the PhosGuard half of the blend is there specifically to bind that off, so Seagel clears organics and colour without adding phosphate the way carbon alone can.

Where it’s meant for. Seachem positions it for reef and marine use, and also freshwater that isn’t phosphate-buffered (a buffered system will exhaust the PhosGuard half prematurely, same caveat as PhosGuard on its own).

Setup & Use

Seachem’s own dose. 250 ml per 150–225 litres (40–60 US gallons). Scaled down at the same ratio, this 100 ml pack covers roughly 60–90 litres (16–24 US gallons).

Before use. Rinse first, then run it in a filter bag to maximise flow through the media. Seachem notes it will fizz and generate heat on initial wetting — expected, not a fault.

How long it lasts. Seachem states Seagel functions for 3 to 4 months before the blend needs replacing.

Freshness & Storage

Every batch we dispatch carries a minimum of 6 months’ remaining shelf life. Store this product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap or inner foil closed tightly after each use.

Filter media and substrates carry no manufacturing or expiry date — their working life begins on first contact with water, not on the shelf.

Returns & Replacement

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original packaging. Manufacturer-sealed items cannot be returned once the seal is broken, and sale-priced items are not refundable.

If your item arrives defective or damaged, message us on WhatsApp with your order number, or email us if you would rather, and we will replace it. Approved replacements are delivered within 3 to 5 business days. Transit damage is covered by insurance on every shipment. If tracking shows delivered but nothing reached you, tell us within 72 hours, which is the reporting window Indian couriers allow. Damage caused during installation or use is not covered; replacement spares for such cases are chargeable.
