If you’re searching for the Fluval 106, 206 or 306, the short answer is that Fluval has discontinued the whole 06 series (106, 206, 306 and 406) in favour of the 07 series: 107, 207, 307 and 407. What stayed the same, what changed
The rated tank size and flow rate for each tier are identical between the old and new generation. A 107 is rated for exactly the same 10-30 US gallon / 40-130 litre range at the same 145 GPH (550 L/h) the 106 was. The rename kept the sizing intact and refined what’s inside the canister.
What changed:
- EZ-Lift media basket: a center-handle design that lets you pull the whole media stack out with one finger, without draining the canister first. The old 06 series used a simpler basket design without this.
- Bio-Foam Max sponge: a rippled-surface foam with roughly 30% more surface area for trapping waste and debris than the previous flat-surface foam, reducing how fast the mechanical stage clogs.

Which size fits your tank
107 suits a nano-to-small tank up to about 130 litres, the same bracket the 106 always covered, just with the refined internals above.
207 covers the common mid-size community tank, 60-220 litres. It’s the size most people mean when they say “Fluval canister” for a standard setup.
307 is the step up for anything heavily stocked or a larger community tank, 90-330 litres. As with any canister filter, where your tank falls between two sizes, size up rather than down: an oversized filter runs a lower proportion of its capacity and goes longer between services, while an undersized one has no fix short of replacing it.
407 is the largest in the current lineup, rated to 500 litres, and the one to reach for on a large or heavily-stocked tank where even a 307 would be running near its limit.
If you already own a 106, 206 or 306
Your filter isn’t obsolete. Fluval’s own parts catalogue and IndieFur’s stocked spares both continue to support the 06 generation, and several parts are shared across both generations outright:
- Motor head gasket, 106/206/107/207: listed as one part across both generations, the seal most likely to need replacing over years of use.

Is the 07 series better, or just a rename? The flow rate and tank-size ratings are identical to the equivalent 06-series model. The media basket, foam media and pump noise are genuinely improved. If you already own a working 06-series unit, there’s no filtration-performance reason to replace it.
Will my old 106/206/306 media basket fit a 107/207/307 canister body, or vice versa? Not confirmed to be interchangeable: the EZ-Lift basket is a redesign specific to the 07 series. Check the specific listing before assuming a basket or media pack swaps across generations; the shared parts (gasket, impeller, shaft) are the ones explicitly cross-listed, not the basket itself.
